I'm going to Amsterdam for a few nights the weekend after next and am thinking of not asking people on this thread for advice on whether to travel or not - am I mad?
Take the usual precautions and have fun!

The effects of the lockdown will only be seen in one to two weeks time, because of the length of the incubation period.
In the meantime the rates will be going up even faster than 1000/day.
Every one of the infected will infect 2 or 3 others (on average) unless they are in total isolation.
    A complete and utter sh*tstorm.

That's correct. Italy will get better in a month if they can handle the lock down appropriately
However if lock down measures are implemented across Europe right now we may avoid most of hassle

To be fair China wasn't so much 'waiting and seeing' it was trying to do a big cover up so the international community wouldn't know it had created a SARS. AGAIN.

The main whistleblower in China was arrested and killed socially, before he succumbed to the virus and died a second time.

You are missing the point - wait and see involves delay, my point was delaying and not taking preemptive action could see an Italian style crisis. I can't begin to understand how anyone could fail to see that the bogus Irish numbers mean nothing, as the progress has been the same everywhere, so might as well be forewarned and act accordingly rather than wait until every respirator has a queue waiting for it.

Why did we get a report about the Apple case in cork around noon instead of at the evening update does anyone know? Sorry if I’ve missed it.

An outbreak starts with small numbers and works its way up, I thought this was generally accepted by now

Yeah. No one is disputing that, if it’s managed and doesn’t spread as fast then it doesn’t go up as fast.
You just can’t say there’s more cases, should we abandon official counts and just have them say there’s a lot of it out there?

Italy would seem to indicate that 'wait and see' is the height of stupidity, China too.

Bologna cases might have escalated rapidly even in the event of a lockdown.

It's actually unfair to be lambasting authorities in a fast moving and evolving situation. Many scientists were unclear about what precise steps to take in mid to late February (for the social media panic merchants, everything is simple and black and white).

UL are running tests on Video lectures at the moment for big blue button.
Would expect most lectures to move to SULIS fairly quickly now.

I have a ball of tutorials today that I'm in 2 minds regarding attending.
Not that I think any outbreak is currently active on campus, but i'm in a high risk group and mitigating any risk is fair simpler than dealing with an infection.

Father in law works in a hospital in Galway, he said hand sanitiser is being robbed left, right and centre.

You should draft a sharply worded email to the facility and the HSE.

No Newstalk has quoted the relevant parts. Lectures will be delivered remotely and labs, seminars and tutorials will continue as normal. I personally believe a lab session is actually a greater risk than a lecture, students are together for longer and social distancing is not possible for the most part.

Suspect because they got a tip off and it's a big employer with possible knock on effects - it also wasn't official if you get what I mean.
