Read my earlier post. 20 cases by end of week 1. 40 by end of week 2. 10,000 by end of week 10 based on cases doubling every week.
Suppose I'll have to do the maths too.
    W1 - 20
    W2 - 40
    W3 - 80
    W4 - 160
    W5 - 320
    W6 - 640
    W7 - 1280
    W8 - 2560
    W9 - 5120
    W10 - 10240

Italy probably followed a similar trend.

According to Worldometers, Italy rate was much worse:
    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/

Italy was 21 cases on Feb 21st.

It’s worth remembering that China has only had 81k confirmed cases to date.

It’s also worth remembering that they’ve only had 3k deaths.

China didn’t force everyone to isolate on day one either.

By the sounds of it they’ll probably ban flights to/from Italy tomorrow after the EU meeting.

If China didnt ban travel including flights to and from Wuhan they would easily have over a million cases by now. Travel bans were the most important factor in the chinese controlling this.

No new cases outside Wuhan. An outstanding achievement. Its also interesting they told the WHO where to go early on.

I actually think they gone too pesimistic now.

Follow what China & Korea have done & it can greatly reduced.

The worry is will people have the discipline to live in lockdown possibly for months

Irish people are too fond of the drink to do lock down, more like get locked.

What about men only bathhouses and glory holes?

What about anywhere lads, just mind your own hand and mouth hygiene and you'll be good.

Also, drink very regular water, as if you wash the virus into your stomach, it dies, but a dry mouth makes it more likely to be inhaled.

    Get a grip of yourself.

The message in green is the correct one.

    How do you know?

Didn’t one of the experts at the show tonight say that asymtomatic people couldn’t pass it on?

I’m be going first thing in the morning for now, I’ll see how the situation evolves and may stop going at all in a few days.

Yes, people should stay away from gyms, pubs, churches etc. Basically you should only go out if you MUST for work/education (until they move education online) and should have food delivered.

The more people basically hermit up the slower it’ll spread, the fewer will catch it and the fewer will die. Sure it is inconvenient but how selfish is it to behave in a way which will spread this and potentially kill individuals within your community?

Coveney looks like he is in shock on Claire Byrne. It looks like the government got a serious wake up call at the briefing today.

The moves today are really encouraging. They will save lives and it looks like it has shaken a lot of people out of their overconfidence.

I’m so glad efforts have ramped up. This will slow the spread and save lives compared to the previous efforts.

    Next steps:
    1. Stop flights from certain countries / eventually close all airports.
    2. Delay the Leaving Cert and college exams until later in summer.
    3. Build capacity and ruthlessly prioritise medical resources.
    4. Look at closing restaurants, pubs, churches, schools etc and just hunker down.

It’ll take some time for it to get to the levels where those things happen but they are likely to end up happening.

Overall though so glad that they have reacted to the briefing.

    You forgot one there....

    7. No new election possible ...
Caretaker or emergency government if no deal reached looking more likley for extended period...

That doesn't fill me with confidence, particularly since flights packed with people are flying in daily from Italy.

    My estimates then are conservative.

Avoid everywhere then. I'm curtailing use of the sauna and steam room but I just disenfect whatever I'm using before and after. Would be a lot slower to go to a pub or gig.

LOL there’s no way we will have 10,000 cases by week 10. Not a chance. We are having a very slow spread since last Thursday. If we reach 1,000 cases by week 10 I’ll be surprised.

Was in Thailand last week. Hand sanitizers everywhere. Random testing in hotels and shopping malls. Coming home, we were not allowed off the plane in Abu Dhabi until the temps of everyone on board were checked.

In Dublin, no sanitizers, no checks of any kind. A customs officer asked me if I had any meat or dairy in my bag.......

Something that is getting overlooked is that Italy may have had hundreds of cases on Feb 21st.

The massive acceleration in case numbers might be an illusion.

I hear you but from the look on his face I think the facts hit them hard enough that political considerations aren’t to the foremost. A government of national unity for the next little while would be a good solution. No-ones manifesto is going to be enacted for the next six months.

If your sick yes if not just wash machines and weights before and after and keep some space around you. Sweat doesn't carry the virus.

Wipe down machines before and after use. Funnily your meant to do that anyway! Don't touch your face with your hands and give your hands a good wash after gym use including anything you used (water bottle, clothes, earphones and phone(if you touched with your hands etc). You don't get many sick people in the gym coughing and sneezing which helps. Keep your distance so packed classes may not be a good call at this stage.
