Those are exactly the sort of numbers we're looking at if 1.9m get infected and we have a similar death rate to Italy, particularly given our lack of ICU beds.

Thats suggests a CFR of 6.3%. Sounds high to me if Italy has a CFR of less than 5 from testing only serious symptom cases?

We are in a serious situation I can not believe the amount of downright stupid posts in the last half hour alone.

Can we put a stop to this please mods?

What are the current chances of getting it and dieing so if your under 40. Do you really think you spreading panic at this stage is healthy.

Can someone explain the run on toilet roll. I understand the hand sanitiser and disinfectant thing but toilet roll?? It just makes no sense!

I think it originated after factories shut down in China and certain supply chains were feared to become scarce for surrounding areas like Hong Kong and Japan who source much of their toilet roll from China.
People in the west then saw the images of Japanese people with shopping carts full of toilet paper and that story of an armed robbery of a van full of toilet paper in Hong Kong and thought they should stock up in just case despite most of our toilet paper in this part of the world not coming from China. :pac:

Spain's 1st death was 14th Feb.... they must have serious community spread if it's been floating around since that date. Death rate is rapidly increasing abit like Italy's did which is very worrying

Yeah I'd imagine all EU countries are community spreading at this stage. Just some countries are a week or 2 ahead of the rest

Italy's health system hasn't collapsed just yet...

Just checked there now. It’s listed in the menu on the “on now” page.

I’ve been following this thread and I know a lot of people have been giving out about the “sure it’s grand” attitude they perceived from the government / HSE, but I just watched Leo there and it frightened me

We have lots of elderly people.

If you have symptoms you get your infected ass away from everybody else and do not spread it.

You only care about yourself is that it?

I see Trump is still at 'it's just a flu' stage.

On the other hand the leaders in Europe are at the 'oh bollocks' stage

Yeah he is two threads back ! Recruiting for the "it'll be grand brigade" as we speak.

It's more along the lines of a worst case scenario sort of figure but Italy has more ICU beds per capita than us, we could conceivably be one of the worst hit in the developed world with an under resourced health service and an unprepared interim government.

I agree with you almost entirely, but just wanted to add the point that even if healthy, it wrecks your lungs.

    Stop wasting my time.

You said mild cases can be left with lung damage, once it hits the lungs you are no longer mild.

Three new cases, all "Local Transmission" as the HSE puts it. Doesn't say where yet.

The HSE gave up on that line a day or two ago (abadonment of false positive messaging). They recently said 1.9m contracting this isn't unimaginable.

NYC St.Patrick's Day Parade putting up a defiant front on social media saying it has been run every year since 1762 and they haven't been told otherwise for this year yet.

Can have up to 150,000 particpants and 2 million spectators.

There's a lot of "only old people will die so you'll be fine! :)" floating about even from statistics type people, which is disgusting. How easily they forget their parents and grandparents.

If no one is in a wood to see a tree fall, does it make a sound? Just because you can't see some numbers on the screen in front of you, doesn't mean the things those numbers represent aren't happening.

Europe closed at -8%, the US will follow similar (-7% currently).

Oil was kicked down 20% in one day, and a price war is looming between Rus vs SA & Co.

Predict global markets will have to cease, or apply limited trading for 8-12wks during peak pandemic, then only gradual recovery towards mid-summer. Then there's a potential Wave2 in November.

Can somebody explain wave2 in November thing?
