Well yesterday evening the UK figure went up/more cases were confirmed around 9.45pm.

Sorry didn't know that, I just remember reading that it was 2pm each day

No one is saying they can't get it, but they seem to be less prone to getting it, get less severe symptoms, and not a single child under 10 has died

similar to many other corona viruses too. Very few children get flu.

With a bit of luck, the chinese experience could be showing that it follows a flu outbreak and dissipates as the flu season ends.

But it doesn't mean everyone is safe as people get flu 12 months of the year - but it's more prevalent Nov - Feb in northern hemisphere.

You know capitalism has gone too far when the elderly, the sick and those outside of employment are being described as an expendable burden to society.

I’m not describing them as a burden. They are the risk group. That’s what I’m describing them as.

I can assure you they will suffer the most from a global economic shutdown.

How long until rioting and martial law in a European country?

6 people died in Italian prisons over the weekend during riots related to Covid-19 restrictions on visitation and fears around the spread inside the prison.

the 0-9 age group could be most dangerous of all...as they could be carriers to older relatives, while having such a good immune system they may not show any signs of having it and cannot be easily identified.

    They can.

There has been no reported deaths under the age of 9.

Thank you, I couldn’t understand people saying they can’t get it.

We should probably be looking into the temporary release of non-violent prisoners before that stuff starts happening here too

I presume it's work as usual on Tuesday for everyone? Being self employed I will be in anyway but I'd say most people who have the chance to work will?

    I don't think a runny nose is actually a symptom of covid-19

It is. Many don't get one, but it's a listed symptom.

Riots in a prison in northern Italy already. 6 dead. They were told about no visitor rule and were not happy.

we now have a disease that could have been halted in its tracks that will be around for months, if not years to come.[/I]

How was it going to be halted in its tracks?

Nah that just "business". An economic shutdown has no impact in people.
You must be a "neo liberal" capitalist.

Sadly one has passed away. But it was already on the way out anyway - the head gasket blew.

Amd it was just 3 days away from retirement

If you look back at the UK, Germany, Italy, etc, and when they first confirmed a case. That number stayed low and the same for a period of time. Then the numbers just took off after that.

But you cannot extrapolate that what happened in Bologna will happen everywhere else as well.

It could well be that a freak set of favourable environmental circumstances and conditions allowed the virus to rapidly escalate in Bologna (and Wuhan). We simply don't know if that will happen anywhere else (and it might well not).

No they won’t, just like Iceland was a basket case for letting their banks fail...

F**king economic horsesh*t scaremongering bollox. I’m sick of financial markets/institutions going full dictator propaganda bullsh*t on us when it suits. I can see how it’s going to be a problem but it won’t be the end. If this global system can’t survive a few weeks of shutdown I really think it needs to be scraped and replaced.

The western financial system knows how to save itself at the expense of everybody else , better then anything in the world. I’m not sure there is anything more effective at self preservation.

The Jury is out on children spreading the disease but the WHO China mission findings suggest that it is rare... A nugget of good news there.
From available data, and in the absence of results from serologic studies, it is not possible to determine the extent of infection among children, what role children play in transmission, whether children are less susceptible or if they present differently clinically (i.e. generally milder presentations).

The Joint Mission learned that infected children have largely been identified through contact tracing in households of adults.

Of note, people interviewed by the Joint Mission Team could not recall episodes in which transmission occurred from a child to an adult.

Inshurdance kicked in for all involved in Paddy's Day today maybe?

There are other mass gatherings early April too. Look up Convention Centre 4-12 April. International visitors in their thousands all under the one roof. And lots of sweatin too!
