Frank Hogan, a legend of GAA crowds has died. On a big match day you'd see him or at least well the sign he held.

It was him, but he changed to 3:7 in the nineties.

I think it was John 3:16 initially back in the 80's. I don't know if it was the same guy. Met him a few times he was a nice fella. Posed for a photo obligingly. Enjoyed the banter,etc. RIP

Met him a few times years ago. Probably thought I was satanic since I told him I practice transcendental meditation.

The verse of 3:16 was too long to explain to people when they asked what the number stood for. He felt 3:7 verse was shorter and easier to say to people.

Born a Tipp man, John lived in Castletroy for most of his life.
He loved limerick hurling and was disappointed to miss Limerick's All-Ireland win in 2018 due to ill health.
Limerick scored 3-16 that day..!!!
Coincidence...:P
