But don’t worry, the price at the “pump” won’t be effected.

Pat Kenny had a lad on from some petroleum “group” and it turns out the pricing is in an incredibly complicated.

Even though the price per “barrel” is dropping dramatically it won’t change the price at the garage. No one is “gouging”, nothing to see here.

Isn't it hilarious that when the price goes up it goes up almost immediately at the pump, no complications what so ever when that happens.

well climate extremists should be delighted with developments.

There has been significantly less global pollution created in the last two months because of China's efforts to contain covid-19.

I can assure you, the pricing is very complicated.

They make very little from the “mark up” on petrol. Something about the government, taxes, a weird forecourts fee...the list goes on.

So when the price of crude oil drops, no one is making anymore money by selling the petrol at the same price as before the “drop”.

All said with a straight face.

All the parades will be cancelled.

The reason people are making up there own mind is they know that parades don't magically happen and it takes countless hours from volunteers.

They are just saving them the hassle.

But Simon will make a decision maybe soon, maybe.

    Careful...
That could well be used as an argument to continue our low density housing here.
Or as one of the reasons why the virus won't ever be as bad here in Ireland ;)

The total tax take in Ireland relative to GDP is well behind almost all of the rest of the OECD: https://data.oecd.org/tax/tax-revenue.htm. Only Chile and Mexico are consistently behind us. France 46.09%, Denmark 44.86% and Belgium 44.85% are the top three there on latest available data. We're at 22.32%.The OECD average is 34.26%.

We're well behind on health spending too: https://data.oecd.org/healthres/health-spending.htm. 7.095% of GDP vs OECD average of 8.795%. In context, our GDP was $411bn in 2019: https://data.oecd.org/gdp/gross-domestic-product-gdp.htm. The difference in real terms is $7bn. Had we spent that amount extra on health services over the last number of years, we might well have the same number of beds per capita as Germany, have a proper home and community care set up in place and be in a far better position to tackle this crisis.

Let's look at personal taxation in detail

According to the Irish Tax Institute

    In Ireland.
At a salary level of €55,000, an Irish taxpayer pays more tax than in Sweden, Spain,
Switzerland and the US. They pay over €800 more than a taxpayer in the UK.....

A worker on €75,000 earns 3 times the amount of a person on €25,000 and pays almost
8 times the amount of tax.

    • A worker on €75,000 earns 2.1 times the amount of a person on €35,000 and pays over
4 times the amount of tax.

    • At a salary level of €75,000, taxpayers in Ireland are paying rates close to France and
they pay over €4,500 more tax than their equivalents in the UK...

Workers move from the 20% income tax rate to the 40% rate at low income levels.

Ireland is one of only thirteen countries amongst the OECD’s thirty-four member countries
that has a marginal rate in the fifties. It ranks in the Top 10.

    • Irish taxpayers enter the 52% rate at €70,045. In fact, at €33,801 we pay 49.5%, which is
    only 0.5% off the “Club”.

    "The 50% club"

    • Spain’s 52% marginal rate only applies from €300,000 and you must be earning almost
€152,000 in France before you pay their marginal rate of 55.01%.

    The entry point to the
50’s club in Finland is €100,000 and in Portugal it is €80,000.

    On Health spending

The 2020 budget saw an increase of €1,006m (6.3%) on 2019 funding - bringing the Health Service Executive budget to a record 17.4 billion

It is estimated that Pay rises and pension payments, will eat up close to €400 million of the sum

If we have a shortfall being spent on actual health care - it is not attributable to actual lack of funding ...

Iran has reported 43 new deaths from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall toll to 237 dead.

Given how the death toll is increasing in Italy (which while far from perfect started later and has a better health system), i find it hard to believe these numbers.

There must be many uncounted cases, people classified as dying from pneumonia, or people who had pre existing conditions classified as dying from those conditions.

They will never give such figure - but a better measurement of the impact of the virus could possibly be to look at how many people are dying in hospitals each week (regardless of the cause) and compare to the average death figure on the same week for the past 5 years.

I've just checked the Aer Lingus website and all flights from Milan to Dublin are Sold Out for several months to come. Does this mean the flights are effectively cancelled from Milan to Dublin?

    He isn't.

    Schools will definitely be closed.

When is the only question, next week wouldn't be a bad guess.
