    There's a real lack of transparency on this. The NHS in the UK have a running total of tests completed front and centre on their website.
    We instead get told things like it's "over 300" a couple of times a week.

    Don’t worry we did a few million breath tests in world record time, in fact I’d say we are world leaders in testing.

    RECORD SCRATCH

    "Virus, Corona. Yeah, that's me, but my friends call me covid-19. You're probably wondering how I ended up here..."

    Imagine that scenario in Ireland. Not worth thinking about. Years of piss poor management and efficiency could come home to roost

    No it doesnt. People need to move on from the casual criticism of HSE capability to deal with this extraordinary spike in need for its services. No country has it. The state of the HSE, whatever its lackings, are but a tiny drop in the ocean on this scenario. Having and extra 50 or 100 ICU beds, which would in normal circumstances indeed be a good thing, really is of no consequences when the need is for an extra 5000.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,380 ✭✭✭STB.

    I've first hand evidence of HSE refusing to test people because they haven't travelled to an affected country.

    The people's republic has had community transmission but this doesn't count as an affected region so no test.

    No test = no problem.

    Where have we seen this before?

    Infact they are not testing people unless they have a fever AND other symptoms. Same crap they were advising in Italy.

    People like lemmings with ticking time bombs over their heads. People eventually end up in hospitals because they cannot breathe.

    Keeps the immediate reported numbers down, but are people self isolating? No chance, sure the HSE didn't warrant them as being at risk.

    Spread, spread, spread. Has anyone told Tony Holohan that its out in the communities now, with no trace back to Italy, because he thinks he is still in some form of small containment phase.

    Its not as if we didn't already know that those at the top of the HSE tree are inept.

    Yes those airports are still open for business. 2 flights from Milan due into Dublin tonight alone.

    Not to be a pedant but 3 into Dublin tonight from Milan after 19.00.

    I’m not sure to be honest, but there is a chance that Dazzler is genuinely telling the truth and as far as the other posters suggesting stats are being manipulated are concerned they are telling the truth.

    While I appreciate there are sick People who would get off on this sort of attention seeking, I don’t get the impression there have been many posters of this ilk in this thread (trying to be this sincere). It’s a shame if any of the people behind these posts think this is funny.

    This makes me fume - they're old, so they don't matter as much, is that it?

    The reported death count for today was:

    1 person in the 0-49 age bracket;
    1 person in the 50-59 age bracket;
    14 people in the 60-69 age bracket;
    39 people in the 70-79 age bracket;
    60 people in the 80-89 age bracket;
    18 people over 90.

    As for the "dispute" on the reported/unreported cases is, could it be that they've been recorded but not yet disclosed? If you take Italy as an example, the number went up by over 1300 yesterday (or was it Friday? I'm losing count) because they said that some of the cases from a specific area had not been previously reported/disclosed. There's nothing to say that something similar mightn't be happening here.

    No, it's just demographic statistics,which, as you've posted here, matches the regrettable medical outcomes but feel free to fume away.

    Do you really believe some of these places are giving accurate figures? Are you saying you trust the current Filipino government?

    The Filipino government Duterte has a 96% approval rating and is loved by every Filipino.

    You should be questioning the figures from the WHO and CDC since they were caught lying about SARS, Ebola and the Swine flu. Lying as in overinflating the numbers. Again and again.

    Just a thought out loud here.

    Is there any countries figures in the World we could actually trust ? Maybe this is tinfoil hat stuff.

    Aren't they all going to try to minimise global image damage and economic damage. Including our own country.

    They're talking about sick pay now. As a precursor to speaking to the guest, the presenter said something along the lines of "people need to work to get wages, the government needs people working because of the taxation they get from that". Thanks captain obvious.

    Its not as stupid a statement as it seems though - a lot of people seem to be missing the implications of it. The country cannot all stay at home tomorrow and sit it out for a month.

    Uk are now advising anyone who has been to Northern Italy to self isolate for two weeks, symptoms or not.

    I think it's about 1000 now.
    From RTE
    There has also been a major increase in Covid-19 testing with over 1,000 cases tested so far.

    I posted a link earlier that Milan Malpensa and Venice are closing tomorrow.
    Linate stays open to Internal flights only.
    All International flights will go to Rome.
    That was in reference to Alitalia operations but I presume that means the airports will close down?

    Aerlingus had already stopped selling flights to Milan from Tuesday 10th onwards last week, maybe they knew this was happening?

    The Ebola doctor is like the rest, it could the this, it could be that. Including the possibility that it will all be over in a short time. I would not quote his best or worst case speculation as being more reliable than other sources.
    Are you a dis-information agent?

    Sure what would world-regarded Microbiologist (Peter Piot) know about it.

    Did you ask your mechanic/hairdresser for their prediction instead and choose to apply value to that? To be fair those hairdressers are good at the gossip and always seem to know what's really going on about the town.

    The assumption that this is only the very beginning of an outbreak is held also by the uk's Chief Scientific Adviser: Patrick Vallance.

    When all this is done, I really hope researchers look at these series of threads and look into how quickly people became:

    - Doomsday preppers
    - Medical experts

    And most importantly

    - Expert statisticians

    The 2020 edition of Reeling in the Years is going to be fantastic IMO.

    People are right. This should be mandatory viewing.
