    I hope the 1.5 million people who gets a mild version builds immunity. I'm going to have to stop reading this thread, it's far too depressing knowing what lies ahead.

    Are you actually confirming you know of 3 positive cases or 3 people being tested?

    Good post here which shows why there is the show must go on type mentality. I think many of us just see the lunacy of not cancelling a parade but that post shows the vested interests in the day and why the decision is being kicked down the road. Probably the worst time to have political disarray that gives rise to a soft goverment when we need them to make the hard decisions despite the vested interests and economic costs.

    Agreed.

    The world Health spokesperson on RTE said that governments should treat this like a war with the virus.

    She also said that hiving it off the the health ministry was an inadequate response, it needs a full government war-footing response.

    I see very little evidence that this is happening here.

    I perceive a deliberate lag in reporting cases.

    That means infected people will assume they don't have it and infect others.

    So if I'm right that they are delaying deliberately, then they are killers.

    The government {of Bulgaria} issued a nationwide ban on closed-door public events.

    It could be prove illuminating to track progression, and compare measures taken to arrest development of outbreak in each country. On the face of it Ireland should preform better given that's it's an island and has a stronger economy, and Bulgaria was already battling an influenza epidemic

    Population Bulgaria 7.01M, {2017 - GDP/head 8,031.60 USD, GNI/head 20,500 PPP dollars.}
    Ireland (island) 4.83M + 1.88M = 6.71M, {2017 - GDP/head (ROI) 69,330.69 USD, GNI/head 62,440 PPP dollars}

    On 8 March, Bulgaria confirmed its first two cases, a 27-year-old man from Pleven {244,209 (2018)} and a 75-year-old woman from Gabrovo {pop. 110,254 (2018)}. Neither of the two had traveled to areas with known Coronavirus cases. The man tested positive for the virus after being hospitalized for a respitarory infection, and authorities announced plans to test several people who were in contact with the two individuals.[1] Two other samples in Pleven and Gabrovo were positive on 8 March.[2]

    Patient zero remains unknown.[3]

    The same day, the hospital in Gabrovo requested additional personnel from other hospitals in the country, as it only had three communicable diseases specialists. All of its internal medicine specialists have been quarantined after one of the four initial cases was confirmed to be a nurse at the hospital.[4]

    The government issued a nationwide ban on closed-door public events.[5]
    {It already had screening in place since Feb. on air passengers arriving from Italy or China.}

    The origin of the outbreak remains unknown, and the Ministry of Interior is tracking down all individuals who have been in contact with the patients.[6] As of 8 March, 254 suspected cases were under quarantine across the country.[7]

    At the time of the announcement, schools had already been closed until March 11 due to an influenza epidemic.[8]

    Also, it's only some medical people calling for it to be cancelled. Others are saying they don't see an issue with it at the moment.

    Besides, large outdoor events are carrying on as normal throughout Europe such as football and rugby matches and the Cheltenham festival in England.

    Only medical people!

    20kg bags of white rice will stay fresh for years. People stocking up on milk and bread are deluded.

    Rice is the think to have. One could survive on boiled rice for a long time.

    People under 50 who may personally be relatively unaffected by the virus should note that if infected they will on average pass the virus on to approximately two people, who will each proceed to pass it on to approximately two more people and so on...

    If you caught the virus this week you could easily start a chain of 500+ infections in people who otherwise would not have got the virus. This could theoretically occur within a 8-9 week period.

    After that pick your percentage for critical patients and deaths and apply.

    This is why it is so important for this constituency of which I am a part to behave responsibly and exercise good hygiene.

    Not a big ask when you consider the stakes noted above.

    And they tell their friends, and so on.....

    The unions does not necessarily represent all workers. I am currently not in a union. I'm also not aware of the proposals been suggested so I'll refrain from commenting on them at the moment. I presume that it has to do with cancelling all annual leave, breaking European working time directive etc.

    What on earth could they stand to benefit not revealing cases?

    Folks we are going to have to trust the HSE and the experts advising them and follow their directions. Its really important. I don't work for the HSE but I have a scientific background and have a sense of the work going on behind the scenes.

    From BBC.
    Is this wrong? Worldometers says up 7 to 73.

    "Greece has banned sporting events with spectators and school field trips for two weeks after the number of coronavirus cases in the country rose tenfold, from seven to 73."

    Duh!
    You gargle with aftershave.
    You use the bleach as aftershave to create a barrier on your skin.
    You use the listerine on your hands.

    Boris Johnson has said that during the epidemic the police are not going to bother with murder investigations, just the serious cases !?!!

    They also suggested that the police should not bother the Army too much because they would be busy relieving firefighters and digging graves.

    If they are keeping something from us (which I doubt) we have to believe there is a good reason for it.
