In another thread on boards about the Redress documentary Opus Dei and Knights of Columbus were mentioned. Realising that I knew nothing of these I decided to start this thread.

In the words of David Norris if Government or Public officials are members of an organisation that is influencing their ideology, then the public have a right to know.

    Opus Dei members(past and current)

Rory O'Hanlon (died 2002), Professor of Criminal and Constitutional Law at University College Dublin and High Court Judge in Ireland (1981–1995). He was dismissed by the Irish Government from Presidency of the Law Reform Commission in 1992, after commenting that if membership of the EU forced the introduction of abortion to Ireland, the country should withdraw from the Union. He later sued the Government and won substantial damages.[15] He was a supernumerary member of Opus Dei.

Neil Dean was Chief Financial Officer of Allied Irish Banks, the largest Bank in Ireland, until 1997 and is a supernumerary member.[28]

Maurice O'Grady, was Chief Executive of the Irish Management Institute, and is a supernumerary.[28]

Michael Adams - Irish publisher (d.2009). He was a numerary member and the Managing Director of Four Courts Press, Ireland's largest academic publishing house.[24] Adams was the author of a book Censorship: The Irish Experience, which was critical of the operation of the former Irish system of literary censorship.

I'll update this as frequently as I can.

Firstly it's far from a secret society. It's members just don't reveal their membership openly but it's activities are open and well known. They even run a parish in Dublin, under the archbishop. Don't believe everything in the Da Vinci Code. Secondly, it has something like 95,000 members, so some are bound to be prominent people.

If they are in positions that influence society or try to influence society their membership should be made known

Apologies, I copied and pasted and didn't edit these out afterwards.

You could say though that Trappatoni traumatised the Nation. They were certainly the opposite of the Charlton years. His Conservatism runs deep into everything.

I don't hate at all, but when people are giving their views or making decisions that affect people its important to know who or what's behind them and with regards to many of the people above its the Dogma of the Society/lobby or pressure group.

Ohhhh I used to love that stuff as a kid, where can I get such family sized cans of Ambrosia?? :D

Not planning on donating them to anyone, it's all for me. They can get their own feckin cans of it.

So. The state and society played their part. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse a child.

    Agreed.

Btw this thread is not just for Religious secret societies or groups, it's for all. I don't know of other societies but if there are others post them here also.

Certainly “worrying”, especially in light of the recent general election results.

Should that “trend” continue we could be in the position of having a political party in government who are controlled by a “secret council” outside of the state.

What’s worse is many of these people were also passing “information” to those they opposed, be it for financial gain or to save their own “skin”.

    Shocking stuff really.

David Norris is no saint himself, if any of the rumours I’ve heard about him are true.

A secretive organisation that employs 200 people, owns 50 properties, and has members linked to historical sex abuse and even disappearing people?

Former RTE newsreader Vere Wynne Jones RIP was a mason.

A member of the Masonic order, he was a master mason in the third level. He defended the order on the RTÉ programme Would You Believe? in 2004, insisting that Freemasons' business practices were completely above board and that there was nothing underhand about their activities.

    Ok, here goes.
What about the politicians who were not members of an organisation in the "North of Ireland"?

James Sheehan, surgeon, and co-owner of several hugely-profitable private hospitals, including the Blackrock Clinic.
My late mother was his first patient in Blackrock Clinic. She said he was a nice man and not at all secretive.
