I was cleaning out a water trough on Wednesday full of cow dung and piss in the pen in the shed where we keep a few cattle . I hadn't any gloves on me at the time and I remember I had a cut on my hand and ive come down with an awful flu since ,which is out of the usual for me.especially since I haven't been out and about for a good two weeks near anyone.

How common is it for farmers to catch it? Is it something I should have been aware of? Im wondering now whether I should wait till Monday or give westdoc a call because how nasty a illness it is.

I was reading apparently 70-80% of herds Carry it even though we still vaccinate against it.

Is it a flu or a headcold?

You would have zero energy with a flu. You can get the common cold from bad weather, without ever having met anyone.

I doubt it's lepto from cleaning a water trough, your hands would be clean again by the time you had finished, especially if water was flowing into the tank at the same time as you were cleaning it out.

With the money saved on Westdoc, have a few hot whiskey's, with plenty of lemon and honey and a good night's sleep.

No one here is qualified to give you advice other than to play it safe and contact a doctor.

Also, the Boards charter prevents it. Best of luck. Thread closed.
