Condensing oil boiler sizing

    Hi All,

    I'm looking to change my old Firebird Popular 90 oil boiler and getting a condensing type oil boiler.Its 25 years old and is starting to leak.And also, theres some amount of wasted heat going out the flue!!
    I'm not sure what size boiler to get.
    House is stone house, about 100 years old.Mid terrace 2 storey, 3 bedrooms upstairs,and kitchen,living room, bathroom downstairs.Back boiler in living room. Around 9/10 rads total.House insulation wouldnt be fantastic.
    Just wondering how to size the boiler to the house really, as I dont want it undersized or or oversized?
    Is there anything online I can look up to get an idea?

    Your installer will do this for you, but if you are curious search online for heat loss calculator and fill in the details. When you see all the questions that need answering you will understand why you didn't get an answer here.

    For a guesstimate you should have an idea if your present boiler has been producing enough heat and work from there.

    As above, if your old popular 90 was/is giving you adequate heat then either a 50/90 grant (14.8kw/26.4kw) or a firebird c20/c26 (20kw/26kw) should suit your needs. If the old boiler was cycling a lot then either of the above boilers set to (nozzle size) 20kw should do the job for you.
