It's a pity the charger leads are not long enough so you could block an ice in an ev space while charging.
If the site is anyway like most SC sites, you could drive up behind the unit

There's not a lot Ionity could do about it except maybe request that the site owners try to keep the spaces free.

A no parking sign with tow away in operation would make many drivers reconsider. Many ICE drivers don't know not to park there, paint or no paint. They could also make access to the area difficult with no entry signs with a small EV exception. The whole site has always been far too small for a motorway service area. I assume I won't get a charge there and fill up elsewhere.

I've never had an issue charging there, but do see the reports of icing.

I live Tesla Chinas solution, Electronic Parking lock :)

Drive to the space, scan the QR Code in your phone from your car, space unlocks.

Make it only possible for EVs to register for the service

Just gotta hope nothing bad happens, like when there's a power cut the metal space blockers don't automatically pop back up while your car is parked there.

Have they even begun the south installation ?

The North Installation seems to be taking forever.

5 months already. I use this website https://ionity.evapi.de/#/ to keep track of what happens with Ionity in Europe and if you go Charts -> Count there is an overall slowdown since December. I know December is a slow one but this is longer.

Probably anticipating a drop in usage due to the removal of the 8 euro per session price

They have a new model of charger from ABB, I wonder if alot of the sites are on hold until the new one is available

Thank is my feeling as well. Kill ones are ready up to the charger. You can see the conduit sticking up where the chargers should be.

I was talking to a client at work today and he's in-directly connected with the ionity installations, he asked me not to say anything that would get him in bother, but he did say there's gonna be a good few more ionity charging points coming up in the next few months.

Apologies for vagueness, don't want to get this man in any trouble.

They will need planning permission for any new, new installations so unless they are repurposing sites or taking over existing infrastructure, I doubt we'll see anything in the next few months, apart from Kill etc.

    Believe!!! :pac:

We can at least have some fun trying to guess where they might be installed. Somewhere on the Limerick side of the M7? M9, though it doesn't get the traffic from what i've heard. The new M18? Those 3 would give them presence on all the motorways pretty much. Maybe one closer to Dublin city itself?
If they're feeling brave, the N3, N25, anywhere in Kerry. Hard to tell since they've been concentrating on motorways, and the main ones are decently covered by them already.

They have planning permissions for 6 stalls at Junction 14 Mayfield too.

IIRC it was one the first sites they sought planning for.

Please, the north west. Carrick on Shannon would be perfect.

For who though? Ionity typically install 4+ chargers. Can't be cheap, so they'd be looking for high traffic areas. I certainly agree the North West needs chargers, as does the South west, but from a business perspective I'm not sure it makes sense.

Why not though? If you look at the Tesla Supercharger sites in Norway, there are loads of them in out-of-the-way places, not just Oslo and Bergen.

The point is that they are at intervals on long-distance routes, so that those routes are covered, and from that point of view, Carrick-on-Shannon makes sense. It allows journeys to be made from Dublin to Sligo, Fermanagh and south Donegal with only one stop.

Coupled with Ionity in Kill, I could get from Waterford to Sligo in my Ioniq in times comparable to a fossil car going M9-M7-Kill-Sallins-M4-Carrick-Sligo. This is the sort of thing they need to be planning for.

Yup, but with our ev presence in Ireland it's a much less appealing site than anywhere in Norway. I'd love to see more chargers around the fringes of Ireland, just have to be realistic around how big the market is for those chargers.

If you look at norway though they are building for future projected numbers not for now.
They could do thje same here, and I agree, somewhere near Carrick or the N5 in that direction would be a good call.

Just passed Kill North and ionity charging units are being installed now

For who? Me obviously!. But I would think that it makes sense to allow people drive from Dublin to the NW and other places. As an example, the wild Atlantic way is a thing- but you wouldn’t be doing it in an EV.

Great! That'd alleviate a lot of the "charge point stress" on the Cork-Dublin road. 135km between Cashel and Kill North. Ioniq leaving Cashel at 90% should just make it in winter driving at 120km/hr (18kW/100km).
    The good routes:
Dublin to Cork has Naas Ionity and Cashel Ionity.
Dublin to Galway has Ionity Athlone, and the Galway plaza with 2X Ecars CCS chargers.
Dublin to Wexford has Ionity Gorey.
Dublin to Waterford has Kilcullen (2x Ecars CCS)
Dublin to Belfast has Citynorth Ionity (135km to Belfast then).

    The ok routes
Dublin to Limerick has Naas Ionity, but no redundancy closer to Limerick (moneygall being the only motorway service station with a single CCS charge point)
Cork - Galway - No redundancy at any single charge point, and not even a single charger on the main road. Have to divert into Limerick/Shannon/Ennis.

    The ICE routes
    N4... goodluck
    N3... goodluck

Adding to the above, if you buy an S/X/3 you have Tesla's SuC stalls covering Dublin to Limerick, Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Belfast.

Doesn't Dublin to Limerick also have the two applegreen CCS/Chademo chargers in Birdhill?

I thought so too, but ECars site shows nothing there.

Given the frankly absurd Ionity pricing outside of the Maingau app, why is there still any sort of interest in more of these chargers being installed? 79c/kWh is almost twice the price per km as a hybrid car.

That's because they're not e-cars chargers, they're Applgreen's own ones. You can see them on PlugShare.

    Yes
I have one app that gives 40c/kWh and another that is 7.60 per session (and another at 8.50)

Happy to pay for the convenience of faster charging. 45 minutes at ecars doesnt fill my S to 80% so needs to be 100kW capable charger min
