The cheap purple polyester suit might work better with a fedora.

Only place for that was the mop bucket for the kitchen tiles.

I'm sure Lappy will be using the mop a lot in his new role.

Actually just on the topic of shoes - budget but still fashionable looking, Cordiners is the go to.... or where?

Churchs or Barkers are the ones the lads wear in my office.

    1) don't cheap out on a suit, a suit is a statement. You might be stuck in a pinch this time, but next time don't cheap out. Quality lasts, and quality stands out.

    2) hard to wrong with the Italians, zegna, armani etc. Homegrown, mcgee are nice. No idea about copeland.

    3) no matter what you buy, it must be tailored.

    4) get it tailored.

    5) tailor the suit.

As for a specific look, not wearing a tie is risky, and not in the "gosh, he's a risk taker" admirable way. But it depends who's around. Colour match shirts, shoes, belt, watch.

Don't wear a black suit to an interview.

As you've not provided a ballpark figure of your desired price bracket nor referenced the job role for interview it makes it harder to recommend the most appropriate option.

You mentioned that it "should not cost an arm and a leg" so; with this in mind why not check out the menswear section at PENNEY'S Department Store as you gotta start somewhere and get a good feel for the different market segments out there. You don't need to feel obliged to buy in any store however; it may give you a good baseline.

In Dublin, the best range & offerings tends to be at PENNEY'S flagship store situated on Mary Street.

Best wishes with the suit shopping and more importantly with the job interview.

    A Penny's suit looks like a suit from Penny's.

It's a switch that may be flicked at at any given moment, much like interrupting a schizophrenic epileptic eating lashings of ambrosia creamed rice.

    This is true -

Although; I don't think the OP is willing to pay a four figure sum for somewhere like Louis Copeland.

At the end of the day, I think the OP is trying to consider all his options. It's hard to gauge when we do not know the job role in question nor the min or max budget he is willing to spend on it all. Without this information, contributors to this thread can only offer general suggestions.

    Alright we got,

    - Pennys
    - S&M...... I mean M&S
    - Topman
    - Arnotts bargain basement
    - TM Lewin (seems just slightly out of my price range)

    ....Zara, Oasis?

Budget is realistically about 2 to 250, another 50 for shoes.

That to me is a lot of money and can go a long way when spent correctly.

Looking the part and "a suit to last me a lifetime" being two different things, I'm definitely going for the former.

Job role is roughly the equivalent of say, a managerial role at a biotech company.
That's not it, but the equivalent.
I'll be interviewed by a series of PhDs, researchers, professors probably?
So yeah, "the part" - that's what it needs to look.
Not overdone - just tight, professional, on point.

I'm not trying to placate or appeal to them via appearance, I'm simply letting them know who's in charge - feel me?

No tux, no tie, button down will be the order of the day.

So, what (else) you got for me?

    PS

Vaguely vaguely, this "look" is what I'm going for.
I like the black on black, I like the shimmer appearance to the jacket - the general presentation runs in that vein.

And no I'm not a particularly big UFC fan, this just popped up when I googled "rocking a suit like a boss".

Diffney's. Wherever you go make sure it's fitted, you will notice the difference in look and feel when a suit is catered to your frame vs store bought suit which can be baggy/loose in some areas and uncomfortably tight in other areas. Plus they'll colour co-ordinate etc.
