Due to go to Singapore at Easter, and then have 1.5 days in Beijing on the way home. Not too keen on travelling any more but the airline (Finnair) is only offering refunds on flights up to March 31st.

Anyone care to speculate if these flight cancellations will continue into April or are things likely to get a bit better in China?

I suspect they will extend that to the end of April in the coming weeks. Emirates and a few others have done this already. If I were you I would wait and see.

    Hi all,

We have flights booked for Dubai for a week, leaving Monday morning.

So far UAE has 20 cases and no signs of a flare up. However I am starting to see news trickling out about school activity cancellations, hotel lockdown for cycling tour etc. Nothing major but I wonder is it a silly time to be there right now?

Honestly not from a point of view of catching it but from potential hassle and not being able to do things.

We are flying via Istanbul both directions so the thought crossed my mind to just take a holiday there.

We haven’t booked hotels yet so whatever choice we make won’t cost us really.

Anyone there right now that can describe what it’s like on the ground so to speak? All pretty normal?

I'm not in Dubai so I can't give you a definitive answer, but I imagine life is continuing as normal. There are a couple of hotels implementing procedures on Yas Island outside Abu Dhabi but that is really not an issue for your trip. You should travel and enjoy your holiday. Lovely time of year to go there, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Do any travel insurances pay out if your trip is cancelled due to the virus? Or do airlines refund you if they cancel the flight?

Looking to book a trip to the States at the end of March, but flights aren't cheap so don't want to get completely shafted

Standard insurance policies don’t cover this, but definitely possible to get it upgraded. Change of mind cover or something similar I think

They will refund you if they cancel your flight but you'll have to ring them to get them to do it. If you cancel yourself you'll get nothing. You've left it late to book that so flights will be expensive. Now is probably a bad time to be booking anything tbh.

Due to fly to Tenerife on the 15th March. Hotel is a couple of doors up from the quarantined one. I'm not worried about catching the virus really, but the thoughts of getting locked in hotel for 2+ weeks is worrying. If there's cases popping up left, right and centre will they continue to lock people down?

I would worry more about any old or young people you may infect if you were unlucky enough to catch it. That's whatI am thinking of in relation to my planned trip to France next week.

True. Are you still going? Or called it off?

Have flights and accommodation booked for July to hike part of the Vie Francegina. Flying into Geneva, flying home from Milan, hiking a lot of the interim distance. AirBNB bookings mostly so only partially refundable at best. Vaguely concerned for obvious reasons.

Also have flights booked to NYC in June, Hamburg in August and Dominican Republic in October. Could be a very expensive bundle of cancellations for me.

Yes, won't be TOO bad but there'll undoubtedly be some small print stuff that doesn't cover something or other.

    Ryanair curtailing flights:
    Ryanair

Ryanair has been forced to cancel up to 25% of all Italian short haul flights for a three week period from the 17th March to 8th April, in response to the Covid19 virus. All impacted customers are being notified by email and SMS and given the option to request a refund, rebook or re-route their journey.

I'm due to fly direct Dublin to Treviso and haven't heard from them so presume it's among the 75% still going ahead.

I’m hoping to go to New York in October, checking out flights at the moment.
Is it risky to book flights? Currently have no travel insurance, do I need to purchase it before I book my flights? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help/guidance.

    October?!

If there's still a coronavirus pandemic in October, it's not holidays you need to be worried about, it's a complete breakdown in society.

I think that if you are planning on traveling anywhere in 2020 then now is a good time to buy travel insurance. The risk of disruption is higher than normal.
In addition I can only see the price on travel insurance going in one direction.

Can I get insurance for that kind of breakdown 😳

What they may do is reduce the frequency of flights and stop any additional seats being booked online... Seems to be 4 per week, so not sure if they had 7 per week...

Has anyone successfully cancelled and had a trip refunded due to a medical reason? I have a child with asthma and we're due to go to London but the thoughts of the tube and overcrowded museums terrifies me. If the Respiratory consultant provides him with a letter not to travel, does anyone actually accept that? We have travel insurance too.

I am meant to be flying into Verona mid April staying in lake Garda...I am really not keen given the number in Italy...but husband pretty insistent we are going if the flights aren't cancelled...

Ok silly question why did you book London in that case? The tube is always overcrowded as are the mueseums.
I doubt travel insurance will pay out.

It's pretty standard that insurance policies don't cover pre-existing conditions. As someone else said, why did you book the trip if it's an issue for your son? That's what the insurance company will ask.

@gmisk and @killbillvol2 Seeing as you are both very curious as to why we booked a family break, I'll tell you. we booked it before there was any incidence of coronavirus. In general, asthma would not prevent him travelling anywhere. At this moment in time, the prevalence of germs in crowded areas coupled with his increased vulnerabilty is why we no longer wish to travel.

I have no interest in why you booked a holiday. I told you why a claim is very unlikely to be successful.

With respect, why did you ask then? By the way, I do appreciate your other response but I don't like being questioned as to why I booked a holiday.
