It's a Ford engine that was also used by Mazda and they have been known for burning excessive oil.

Didn't know that! Imagine correct maintenance would help?

Could also just be a faulty connector.

Agreed but I was working on the assumption that if it was an easy fix the seller would have sorted it before selling. I had the unfortunate experience years ago of having my (much loved) car written off by an insurance assessor after a minor bump that caused the airbag light to come on. Insurance company said it was too costly to repair (car was valued at about 1k) and insisted on writing it off.

So, my E60 530d is for sale now. Carbon black, test until end of April. 312k km, full Joe Duffy history, and last month I did oil/air/cabin. Its auto, its got cream/beige/mustard interior and is certainly sold as seen. For a boardsie I'll do €1500, so for the bangernomics price of 2k you'll have a taxed and tested 530 for three months. I'll be honest with it if someone comes view it.

This sold to the first viewer for a little under what I was asking, and he was even on here although he's far from a regular poster ;)

The "brand new tyres at last service" would indicate she's due a service very soon as the one he pictured looks like it's done a fair few miles.

They are a great car though, well ahead of their time and ultra reliable and comfortable.

Looks like the last service was in 2017 according to the book! And yeah, those tyres don't exactly look brand new..

    It’s too dear IMO. It’s more a €1500 car.

Sure you'd get a newer one for the same money, but this looks lovely. 2 owners. You hardly ever see these around anymore

Keep an eye on oil level regularly. Weekly.

I drive one daily with 320000 km on the clock now and had oil gone missing on one occasion, but other than that very reliable.

    Don't expect good mpg.

My regular commute is 80km/h and it averages around 8l/100km, but motorways are killing it as there is no 6th gear.

SE spec is very good value for money in this case.

Feeew times brand new tyres is true....and if it is, are totally unknown brand fitted so a waist of money Imo

If you're paying higher tax as well as only getting 8l/100km at that speed, it might not really be a bargain after all!

Nice Beemer here for small money. Short NCT but could be a nice barge to smoke around in for a while

I drive 30km a day. So not big deal for me, but yeah, it is thirsty. Most 1.8 of that vintage would have similar mpg though. Regardless of manufacturers claims of 6l/100km ;)

I drove one of these for 2 years recently. Grand car. Everything worked reliably and didn't have to do anything except change the brake lines. Very big inside for the size of the car. That's a little overpriced but for 6 or 7 hundred you could do a lot worse.

Not a very sensible bangernomics car in the traditional sense, but an amazing amount of car for the money! And cloth seats!

Would the original purchaser have had to option cloth instead of leather?
Seems at odds with the brand.

I remember colm_mcm saying the base model was available with cloth, and that only a handful sold.

Just noticing now that the door cards look like they're leather?

An odd mix indeed. I think if I owned that, I’d be picking up a leather interior for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,826 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Very odd alright, the door cards and front centre armrest are in leather. They still have electric adjustment and lumbar support too. Seems overly equipped for a base model. Those seats look almost new with little or no wear too, I wonder were the originals replaced.

Tax is a bit sore at €750 on co2 but it looks a genuine car and the ad reads very genuine, claims of full history etc. Worth a look for someone in the market for something like this IMO
