It was possible to reserve numbers for imports once upon a time.

I know the seller by the way. Bought plenty from him. I don't know anything about that car though

38k miles on a 17yo car is nothing if it's genuine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,769 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

You would nearly want another 5k in your pocket for the potential cost of repairs on that SL. That was an iffy period for Mercedes so it would definitely be a risky acquisition imo.

Definitely the roofs give problems on them big money.

    Priced dropped to €2750.

Price drop to 1,999. "Engine light and SAWD light flashing"

Is that the All Wheel Drive going wrong ? I take it thats as expensive to fix as it sounds. There seems to be also a nasty mark in one of the photos

Game set and match, likely someone found out on the test drive.

Do you suspect a mechanical problem?

Quick Google has a few hits of oil pressure sensor failures causing the fail on those Honda. Can be identified with obd scan

Yes, or a diff oil change is due. I wouldn't expect mechanical failure of AWD in any Honda. But open to correction.

Been watching it for a while. Cant make sense as to why its so cheap, even for a Cat D. Iv been tempted to call, even just to find out what happened with it, and its history because thats a very very low reg number for a UK import. Could it have been originally Irish, exported to the UK, and then brought back? Would it keep its "original" Irish plates if re-imported?

The numbers didn't start until 200 back then, you could buy any number up to 200 for about 250 Euros if it was still available, do a Cartell search and see most have not been taken.
Can't do it any more though.

Interesting, thanks for that. With regards to my hypothetical situation of an Irish car exported to the UK, and then re-imported to Ireland, would it claim back its original registration or would it get a new one?

God I'd love that. Trying to justify my is250 for the last 2 years to herself is already hard enough.

That's a gorgeous car. If they came in a 3.0 litre, I could just about justify €1k a year tax but €1800 is just too much.

That was for sale last year for the same money without tax or test. I'd be wary.

800 a year in tax extra makes the car 4-5k cheaper than it would be on the continent. if you think about it 3x800 is 2400 , 2400 over 3 years to own a savage barge.

Its the (3 x 1800) €5400 in tax alone, thats the kick in the hole though!

I think you have no choice - you get the original Irish registration.

    Unless this changed recently?

Just look at it being less than the depreciation some people are willing to pay to own a Dacia Sandero!?!?!?

SF propose abolishing the penalty for paying for three or six v 12 months. Would have been great for the barges in particular

Can we call this a barge? SL350, claimed 38k miles, NCT til October, €4995

4 owners and cat D, but not recent. Not a huge worry on an older car either IMO.

The shut lines are all wrong in that. I think that it's also a pre facelift which is never a good idea. Hydraulic tops can leak and shocks are pretty eye watering at about €1700 each. Also, why bother with the 350?, same tax and you'll always regret not buying the V8

I'd buy an SL in a heartbeat if we were allowed have a 2nd car in this country without insurers making it prohibitive.

Classic insurance might be an option

I can't understand why you can't pay for it by the month? I'd pay a little more if I could get 2 months or 5 given I've two barges, a daily and a summer weekend toy but that's a topic for another thread

Absolutely, 150 a month vs 1809 upfront would be a hell of a lot better, half the price of a pcp on a new duster too 🀣

Bit over budget but a nicely spec'd S500 with tax and test from a main dealer (madness that a main dealer would retail this IMO!)

I remember the night vision option on these when they first came out, the height of gadgetry then!

Christ, I'd buy that just for the 4 (7 really) months of tax :D

    night vision - check
    rear adjustable seats - check
cooled seats - g'way with your gimmicks.

looks really well and a warranty on it too hah. Must have been the dealer principals old car or something, not a chance anyone is standing over a 14 year old barge unless they're 100% sure where it came from.
