Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Wow! That logo: I wonder how much it cost but I'm sure it "encapsulates the true spirit of golf in Ireland" or whatever other sh1te they conjured up in corporate speak.

It's like a something my kid would produce when trying to trace something and the paper moved...

I was hoping it was as a result of a primary school competition but I fear it cost several hundred thousand to 'come up' with this. Underwhelming to say the least.

The logo is fine, just wondering what the gold line on the left side is(under what I assume is a green or fairway)

That logo stinks of hundreds of hours of marketing research, focus groups and 100 different requirements that the logo had to meet.

Free set of golf clubs to whatever under 12 year old that can come up with the best logo would have yielded far better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭thewobbler

It won’t have cost hundreds of thousands.

The logo design will be a relatively small cost in an an overall brand strategy piece, which likely would have involved market research, benchmarking, focus groups, IP research, and alignment with organisational and marketing strategies.

A primary school kid can’t do that.

But then again, instead of paying a company to do all that, they could have gone through a primary school competition, and ended up paying a company to build and manage a website for entries, paid a judging panel (we wouldn’t want golfy mcgolf face, would we), paid an agency to ensure that the logo isn’t a copyright infringement, paid a design agency to take the initial concept and redevise it into multiple shapes and colours for each potential use, and paid the marketing and organisational advisors to realign their strategies to what has arrived.

You can make you own mind up on which is the more effiecient method.

You are assuming the kid comes up with an equally rubbish logo, we are saying the kids logo would probably be better. No argument that there is always a cost to these things, but at least have a descent logo that has some significance

Is it about two irregular bodies put together that just don't fit.

A bit awkward considering it is the merging of golf in Ireland:D:D

Actually if you laterally invert one and turn upside down ;)

The new governing body. The old GUI and ILGU merged.

It's terrible. Looks like a logo more suited to advertise feminine products. They had once chance to design a logo which succinctly represents golf in Ireland and they blew it. I really hope they go back to the drawing board.

Very little chance of an organisation like this admitting a mistake and changing it, instead they'll all clap themselves on the back so hard that the sound of it will drone out the golfing public

Theres a green one on the lines on the left, and the other line. I see now it's not a kinda backwards p as I thought, it's just a second thing of the same image. So fairly terrible on that side

Is it not just an outline of a green and an outline of a bunker?
Green line is a green and the yellow/gold line is the bunker?

Is this like the dress that some people saw as blue and black and some saw as gold and black?
To me that logo is green and grey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is it not meant to represent to joining together of the GUI & ILGU.

2 separate entities coming together as one?

That would be my interpretation of it anyway.

100% its grey/silver, but someone started talking about gold lines so I just went with it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,253 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

Wonder do the colours correspond to the name?
Silver bit is GOLF and shaped like a green
GReen bit is IRELAND and shaped (somewhat!) like Ireland?

I see green and a beige brown

I see green and grey. The green grasses and the grey skies of Irish golf perhaps?

Looks like a couple of peanuts on the left.

Reminds me of that cartoon figure, think it was called MOOMINPAPPA, he was a blob shaped figure with a big silly voice, probably not how golf Ireland see themselves but maybe strangely appropriate??

Huge amount of energy focused on a logo and what it looks like.

Lets look at the end goal, 2 really great golf bodies, combining into one governing body to enable golf in Ireland to grow to new levels.
incorporating both into one is something thats worked very well across many countries, ive seen it first hand.
We are very lucky in Ireland to have the people we have leading this from GUI/ILGU and to see all anyone is worried about is a logo says it all about 2020 Ireland.

Its not a brand that needs to be marketed or sold (failte Ireland look after that), its a governing body that has a focus locally around golf in Ireland. The Logo might be crap (i like it tbh), but really does it matter.

Agreed, The GUI have been a great development body and custodian of golf in Ireland for a long time.. I have also seen it first hand and the work they do and have done for a long time is stellar and just look at the success of the amateur and professional game in this country as examples of this.

Is that not taking things a bit too serious ? "2020 Ireland" :)

Loads of threads here have detailed and explained the GUI and any sensible golfer understands the importance and contribution they have made.

It is such a significant and important move - people will be interested in what comes out.

Yes - very easy to be a hurler on the ditch and golf is run by extraordinary people all doing things in their own time predominately voluntarily.

    So point made.

    Does this log replace the

I'm not being critical of the GUI, ILGU or Golf Ireland (which I think is a great step forward for the game by the way) but the logo is uninspiring that's all.

Wonder what the status of male only clubs will be in this new organisation ? Being a male female union.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Are there still male only clubs in Ireland? There really shouldn't be anymore, so hopefully it kills them off (and by that, i mean forces them to change).

It's their club, let them run it whatever way they want.

If the ladies want a female only club, more power to them. They'll receive no complaints from me for choosing to run their club the way the want to

    All great in theory.

But in reality , a good chance to get them out of union. And as well documented here, no harm.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Yeah, i guess so. Golf is in a pretty sorry state at the moment though, and old school thinking like that certainly doesn't help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,958 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Look I think this is a great opportunity to get rid of the few old clubs - who wanted all the advantage - but offered nothing in return.

I know there will be all the old supporters and posters to ridicule that opinion.

But - tough, time for you to go - I do not want to see you at any other club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 606 ✭✭✭Tin_Cup

As part of the transition process it was outlined that all current clubs who are current members of the GUI and ILGU will automatically move into Golf Ireland.

Personally, I beleive it would be disappointing in future if some type of minimum equality requirement was not introduced though as part of the affiliation requirements to Golf Ireland.
