    No denying it.

Found it a bit crazy all the same that he's double what Klopp and Mourinho make per week and £15mil more than Guardiola.

£700k a week, great if you can get it.

Klopp isn't even the highest earning manager in the city of Liverpool :P

Say what you will about Atletico, but there’s a dark art to what they do that has to be admired. Not one shot on target from Liverpool. Thant’s impressive from Atletico.

Liverpool have gotten used to getting their own way this season, it’s a great achievement to suppress a team that has been so dominant.

Atlético bring a great atmosphere. I see massive similarities to Liverpool even if they aren't as successful recently overall

1-0 is a good result for us I think

Absolutely buzzing about the second leg. Think it'll be a cracking night at Anfield. Cannot wait.

It's always been their away form that is their Achilles heel. Their ****housery has far less effect, they will have vociferous fans against them instead of behind them and will hardly get a ref as poor again the next day.

They were 2-0 up at the end of the first leg last year and went out.

Didn't they spend over 200m in the summer?

Shhh don't let facts get in the way

Didn't they sell enough players to fund the 200m? Griezmann/Hernandez etc

Probably. But that still isn't very very little investment.
They were good tonight, but been poor in La Liga (10 wins from 24 games) and sit behind Gatafe in the table.

What a player Haaland is. Amazing that Dortmund got him for around €20m

    2nd goal was Lewandowski-esque

Not many players have that sort of confidence and belief to finish like that.

Huntelaar, Lewandowski, Zlatan, Dzeko.....that type of finisher is unique. This kid is going to be great

Reminded me of Klinnsmann. He will go to the very top in the game.

Plus has the added advantage of his ex pro auld fella. It's all set up lovely for him.

When I was looking up this article -

    https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/18/football/borussia-dortmund-psg-erling-braut-haaland-neymar-spt-intl/index.html

The embeded video with his former coach from RB Salzburg gave him a load of praise as person.
Like how he had to be told not to give others in the team the pens.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

That 2nd goal was set up for him by Claudio Reyna's son too.

Jesus, the whinging from Klopp and Robertson after the game was something else.

In Liverpool's only three actual tests to date they've a total of 1 point (Napoli H/A & Atleti).

You don't get points for knockout games

Shhh don't let facts get in the way

They have a profit of £60 million this year, their outs easily covered their in which was well needed considering they didnt replace Rodri. Over the course of a 10 year period their investment in there squad in comparison to Real, Barca, United, City, Juve doesnt even come close.

I guess I should have elaborated.

Okay, I should have stated over the DURATION of his career. Even with that investment they posted a net profit of £60 million for last year.

Their net spend last Summer was around -60 million. There wasn't any investment.

It's mad to think that liverpool wouldn't even be in the top 4 in Spain, shows how poor the premiership is this season.

It’s mad how rattled to the core of your soul by this premiership season you would have to be to post that.

Not rattled at all, just giving my opinion. Let me start by saying liverpool are amazing this season, as it's just February we'll need to wait to the end of the season to see exactly how good they are (I think a fair statement).

Klopp is a great manager, would have loved him to have replaced Wenger but he chose liverpool.

But the the league is weak, I see pool fans saying all the big teams are weak and poor but yet they won't admit it's a poor league. Also the carry on from Liverpool supporters is unbearable. Their self-appointed underdog/victim mentality is really causing them to act in a very Un gracious manner.

Bit early to be making this call. It's only half time in the round. Why not wait till after the return leg?

****en right we are unbearable, just wait until may. You have seen nothing yet. Not sure what you mean by underdog, this liverpool team is the best in the world and possibly the best the premier league has ever seen.

Liverpool got Atletico'd. I'd still fancy them to progress at Anfield though, especially when you remember how Atleti capitulated to Juve last year away from home.

PSG v Dortmund is on a knife edge, 2nd leg should be a cracker.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Wow, this is the league that produced the four finalists in the premier european competitions last season. Its all gone tits up in a few months!!! BTW I'm not a fan of any of the top teams or UTD.

Some points I found interesting last night, a few people saying that maybe the issue was Liverpool have basically been coasting to the league and, as we've seen with other clubs from other leagues in the past, this can leave you a bit cold when it comes to high stakes elite European games. The other was that maybe they went over there slightly too confident, those first 5 minutes of the 1st half they looked as rattled as they've looked in the last couple of years under Klopp.

Lots of doubts about Cholo Simeone before the game, maybe this team he has isn't suited to league play because they don't have enough goals in them to consistently win close games but in knockout competition his team is a stern test for any and last night the Wanda was riled up, the players were pumped up for it too and they limited Liverpool to almost nothing and maybe should have a goal more to show for their efforts.

Liverpool will still be the bookies favourites going into the 2nd leg given what they did to Barcelona last season and given how Atletico capitulated at Juventus but I make it out at 50/50. One goal for Atletico probably ends the tie, I think Simeone is a coach whose mental strength might stop his team crumbling at Anfield, and honestly Klopp looked a bit rocked after the game in his post match press conference, and tactically I thought that Atletico were a tough match-up for Liverpool. That lack of an away goal could be the deciding factor in this.

I thought this thread was about the CL and not any particular league Irish, English, British or otherwise? Obviously people who live in Liverpool or Manchester have found this thread?

Still spent close to £200m and have a higher transfer fee paid than any English team

Happy days then Liverpool have not invested in their squad then as they have had some positive net spends can't have it one way and then the other when it suits.
