They have been average in la liga this year too.

Thought pool would have done them home and away.

13 knock out games now for Madrid without defeat at home not bad is it, stronger ref was needed to cut out their antics but ahh well we all knew it would happen and getting a lucky break for the goal was all they wanted

I have to say, I love watching Atletico games. Just the way they defend, the superb shape they keep, the committment, the aggressive attitude, Simeone going mental on the sidelines.

    No harm but can't agree.

They were grand for a season, as we cheered them on as underdogs, but it's anti football. Call me old fashioned but I prefer attacking, free flowing football

Anyone else find it bonkers that Simeone is the highest paid manager in the world?

    £36 million a year

Worst league in Europe right now... Chelsea won four games since November and still in fourth

Really? What did Benitez get to go to China? That must be close to it.

So basically the teams chasing them in 4th are ****e and can’t string a run of results together?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,145 ✭✭✭✭niallo27

Lol what relevance does that have?

Well from reading the original post, the poster was saying the liverpool were only good in the premier league and not in Europe, where as I pointed out the fact that it is strange for someone to say that European champions are poor in europe which in fact cannot be true by the very fact that they are European champions.

Honestly I'm glad you get to enjoy it, because we certainly enjoy the trainwreck that is United week in, week out. These kind of losses only come about for Liverpool every few months so a 1-0 loss away from home is not the end of the world.

Brady spot on A Madrid are like the anti Barcelona.
I think Atletico will snuff liverpool out.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Well done talking about the past in present relevance. He didn't say you were bad in Europe he simply said the premier league is not great in comparison to European teams, especially in the knock out stage.

I understand you're hurting with the result but I wouldn't be so sensitive.

Since you bring up the original post, I think you might spot where I clearly said "this year", but you seem to have chosen to ignore that part.

He's really getting nearly double what Pep is getting? That's mad.

For Atletico, a selling team who invest very very little Simione continually makes them competitive and qualifies for champs league year after year even when the squad is rebuilding. I would say anyone else for 10-15 million a year wouldn't get what he gets out of his team.

Tbf what else were they going to do tonight
It was the best tactic against Liverpool in this leg in all fairness

I still expect them struggle at Anfield but conceding an away goal would have effectively ended the tie early for them

Gives them a much better chance of progressing and I suspect they will do the exact same at Anfield and sit deep

Why would I be hurting, they will batter them in the next leg. They are a nothing side. We both know that in fairness.

Wasn’t tonight the first set of games in the CL this year? Pretty small sample set to be working off TBH.

You could argue that Simeone improves Athletico a LOT more than Pogba & Sanchez improve United for similar money

Atlético bring a great atmosphere. I see massive similarities to Liverpool even if they aren't as successful recently overall

1-0 is a good result for us I think

Absolutely buzzing about the second leg. Think it'll be a cracking night at Anfield. Cannot wait.

Didn't they spend over 200m in the summer?

    No denying it.

Found it a bit crazy all the same that he's double what Klopp and Mourinho make a year and £15mil more than Guardiola.

£700k a week, great if you can get it.
