I'm totally against another team been added into the group stages, the quality of the 4th side in the group is just fodder.

In my view What would make the champs league more exciting is 2 legged knockouts before the last 16 go into a group stage . Imagine this seasons last 16 in a group stage - would be good. The current 32 teams in groups of 8 is not great as many groups are over early and a lot of hammerings.

Money talks tho and unlikely they will get rid of the early group stage .

    Some good ties next week.

    Think Dortmund v Paris
    and
Spurs v Leipzig will be decent entertainment.

But Liverpool will beat Atleti home and away.

    Teams for tonight's games:
Borussia Dortmund XI: Burki; Piszczek, Hummels, Zagadou; Hakimi, Can, Witsel, Guerreiro; Sancho, Haaland, Hazard.

PSG XI: Navas; Meunier, Silva, Kimpembe, Kurzawa; Gueye, Marquinhos, Verratti; Di Maria, Mbappe, Neymar.
Atletico Madrid XI: Oblak; Vrsaljko, Felipe, Savic, Lodi; Saul, Koke, Thomas, Lemar; Correa, Morata.

Liverpool XI: Alisson; TAA, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Pleased Tuchel didn't go with that 4-2-4 that he's been using in Ligue 1. Would have been suicide against Dortmund.

Line-ups suggest Simeone has picked Lemar for the left side but that might not be the case.

Two interesting games. Expecting Dortmund/Paris to be open and Atletico/Liverpool to be tight. Thinking first legs will go 2-1 to Dortmund and 2-0 to Liverpool.

I wish one of these games was on tomorrow - it'll be tough going to watch them both!

That Dortmund attack is so good but you fear for them defensively. As the home side, I'd give them an edge tonight but over two legs, I wouldn't be confident.

As for Liverpool, we're not as predictable away from home in the CL and Atletico have a great home record. But this isn't the Atletico - or the Liverpool! - of old. A draw tonight wouldn't be the worst result but I'd be hopeful that we can take the game to them and hopefully get a 2-1 win (or better!).

Or why not 6 and 8 this evening? I guess everyone wants to be starting round 8 by this stage...

Will RTÉ be showing highlights of the other match this round or are we getting the barebones 'that was the match, cya later' treatment like the group stages?

Is it a rights thing? Can't really understand the point of coverage starting an hour in advance of the match otherwise.

I’ll be massively shocked if there isn’t at least 3/4 goals in the Dortmund and PSG game.

Have seen both teams live this season and the defences are atrocious. Dortmund have thrown away winning positions on numerous occasions this year while PSG are so open and attacking in general they forget to defend

Atletico take a surprising early lead via Saul.

Atletico take a surprising early lead via Saul.

Atleti starting with serious intensity. 'Pool need to get things tighter, slow it down a little for 20 minutes, and then starting pushing more.

He's been fouled each time. Ref should start carding some of these challenges.

Big chance for Dortmund missed. Poor header from a Haaland and he also took it off a teammate in a better position

TAA has been dreadful for pool. Quite the opposite of Robertson who has been great.

    No, never did.
But didn’t console myself that they were 1:0 down away in the first few mins of a 2 legged round.

Liverpool game going much the way it would even if it was 0-0. Atletico were always going to do their snarling defensive act.

Loads of possession, well inside Atletico's half too, but not much final product at all.

The Dortmund/PSG game hasn't really got going yet. Dortmund have had some decent chances but the decision-making letting them down at times. PSG sloppy with their passing. Get the sense it could take off any minute, but whether that's the next half or the next leg I'm not sure. Zagadou looks like he has a point to prove up against his former team. Loved his use of strength defending against Di Maria. Thought Gueye looked a weak link for Paris. He needs to step it up.

I'd be expecting to see a much improved liverpool second half performance. They're usually much better than this.

    How's Haaland doing tonight?
