Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi

Following on from my previous post about dual monitors for working from home decided to go with the widescreen option

Looking at 25+ something where I can split the screen and work from both of them rather than having dual monitor. Wont be doing any gaming and will be used for general use outside of work. so I can open spreadsheets one screen while working of email, browser etc on the other

Looked at adverts and also Amazon but still unsure. Current desktop has VGA but would like monitor with both vga and hdmi. I have speaker for PC but if monitor has speakers no issue getting rid of speakers. Not to pushed on built in camera and price wise don't want to go overboard less than €200 lower the better

Any suggestions?

You will be hard pressed to find modern ultra wide monitors with VGA. Most are dropping DVI already which is far newer and better than VGA.

HDMI and display port only is the way it's gone.

This is probably your best bet anyway.

Can you clarify if its standard wide-screen eg 16:9 (2 A4 windows side by side equivalent) or an ultra wide which would be much wider.

Keep in mind that as you go ultra wide a 25inch is very small. Google size charts to see!

My bag more requirement for standard wide screen. Rather than getting 2 regular screen get large wide enough screen so can split screen. Just work with MS products and outlook and internal systems

If you want to split-screen, would recommend look for a 27" monitor, with 1440p resolution.

That's what I us in the workspace and it's perfect, tons of real estate on the screen.
(word/excel open side by side)

For the sake of a tenner though (€212 vs €201), I think the Phillips would beat it just for the resolution alone, the 1440p vs 1080p is massive difference imo,

This Acer might be an option but €40 over budget. It is 31.5" and QHD though so would be very good for splitting the screen in two.

Yeah this was mentioned to me also. I think I need to look at them in a hard bricked shop. It would be mainly used for work and on occasion for home use so wont be watching any movies or gaming

I dont think size matters (fnar Fnar) really if using it mainly for work and home use more of if I am staring at the screen for 8 hours what would it be like and can I split it rather than have 2 monitors. Not a graphic designer and currently working off 2 NEC about 20 inches width by 22 height approx in work

Good shout on seeing them in the flesh, the ultrawides will be a lot smaller height wise than their widescreen equivalents. Eg. a 24 wide is same height as a 29 ultrawide with the latter just being stretched wider than the 24.

Regarding the VGA, you will have to get a different output from your machine through perhaps a passively cooled low end graphics card with at least dvi/hdmi outputs as VGA will not support resolution over 1080p. In theory it can support a 2560x1080 (the aforementioned monitor) but the quality will be quite dreadful especially for text.

If you have a separate graphics card installed it should have it's own ports.

Nope don't think I do. Don't have the full spec on it. Is it best to upgrade it.

if the below is what you actually have from the link you posted then your PC is most likely the guts of 11 years old so completely obsolete and not worth upgrading.
If you need the monitor now then just get one of the monitors you've been looking at and get an adapter and then look to saving for a replacement system.
