Got the Platinum in AC Odyssey, even though I finished the main story last year at some stage. Does that count? :D

First game of 2020 to complete (well the 30hour campaign) is Borderlands 3.

Bland enough story, some funny parts but as always with a looter shooter it’s the end game and loot that’ll keep me coming back.

Loads of side missions to go back to as well.

    Jedi Fallen Order on PS4.

Heard it was buggy but didn't really have that problem. If I glitched through something it was when I was falling off something anyway. It crashed once but so did Spider-Man.
I found the game itself pretty hard and have some complaints but overall found it to be a good game.

I think the game was patched quickly enough to fix it. I experienced little-to-no bugs during my playthrough.

Pure B-game but a really fun one. It's a third person shooter by the Yakuza team. It's got an interesting setting and some good hard sci fi elements the game unfortunately never really follows through on. Some of the dialogue and moments in the game are just bizarre and insane but it kind of works with the strange campy vibe the game has. The combat though is really fun. The robots make great enemies and they just fall apart beautifully when being shot. The game keeps things interesting with a number of inventive set pieces. Some on the rail sections don't work that well and there's a fun annoying boss fights but overall it's a great if not brilliant game that is worth playing for how weird and interesting it is.

Be warned, the PC port is totally half arsed. It wouldn't work with my licensed third party xbox controller, it took me ages to get it working in the correct aspect ratio and mouse aiming doesn't feel great.

Got this a good few years ago , thought the same as you great but flawed. Loved the combat in it.

Enjoyed this. Took less than 2 hours so doesn't outstay its welcome

Ah lads. I didn't enjoy this one at all. Two major issues for me.

The motion controls (which I think is mandatory) and the awkward camera. I know, I'm complaining about a game where I'm controlling flower petals in the air. I shouldn't be that bothered.... and I'm not.

For one thing, the game is beautiful. It looks stunning in 4K as well.

But for me, that's as far as it went. I felt like I was fighting with the camera and controls all the time. I was under the impression Flower was a bit of a zen game - one to relax with. But after the 3rd level I was just becoming frustrated. I'd sometimes miss something which meant I had to stop and turn around, and that's where I started getting sick of it.

Not for me. I tend to avoid games that are exclusively motion-contolled, and this couldn't be a better example.

(Why did I keep playing it? Because I thought maybe it would get better and I felt I'd have an entitled opinion if I played it to the end. I owed it that much - it wasn't long anyway. Took me a couple of hours... if that)

    Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Borderlands 3: Moxxi's Heist DLC - Decent chunk of content which gave me a good reason to jump back into BL3. Would have appreciated some new additions to the skill tree or some more new loot, as it is the DLC does very little (if anything) to change the meta, so for someone like myself who only runs one character and hasa god build on said character, this DLC unfortunately done nothing to add to the longevity of the game for me. Good fun though while it lasts.

Control - Phenomenal stuff. I'm a huge fan of Remedy's work (though admittedly Quantum Break wasn't amazing, though I think that was more a result of Microsoft's TV TV TV attitude at the time it was being developed), but this is by far their best game to date. It's bat**** crazy, even by Remedy's already trippy standards, and the gameplay itself, which I usually find to be the weakest aspect of Remedy's games, is nigh on perfect.

Probably would have been my game of the year last year had I played in 2019.

    Thank you!

I keep thinking I'm crazy but I'm not the only one it seems.

Did not enjoy Flower at all. Everyone said it was a fantastic relaxing experience. I found it a profoundly frustrating one as like you I was constantly wrestling with the awful motion controls. Did not enjoy it one bit. It's also a wee bit pretentious. I'd have enjoyed it more if it wasn't for the controls.

I'd even throw more shade at it because I didn't enjoy any of ThatGameCompany's games that it put me off trying Journey for a very long time. I ended up loving Journey.

    Life is Strange season 2.
    The Outer Worlds.

Far Cry: New Dawn. Completed and platinumed. This game is bonkers lol. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. Knows what it is and has fun with it. I loved Far Cry 5 and liked the ending even though I know that’s an unpopular opinion. The open world is still a lot of fun, plenty of reasons to explore and learn more about the world of Hope County
    post apocalypse
    .

Everything is faster paced than Far Cry 5. Traversal, looting - it feels less clunky. However, the story is much weaker in comparison. The best thing it does is make you nostalgic for the characters in Far Cry 5 which, I suppose, is deliberate given the story line.

The insane enemy spawning is actually welcome here as they’re needed to complete the weapon challenges, of which there are plenty. Weapons are all familiar, with the exception of one cool addition, but still feel great, if not better. The looter shooter elements were an OK addition, I guess, but rather simplistic when compared to something like The Division. If anything, it felt very much like a testing ground for what’s to come further down the line. Could have done with less microtransactions though. Ubisoft seems to be obsessed with turning every one of their games into a loot grind now for this purpose.

The guns for hire are somehow worse than in FC5. It’s almost as if they realised the ones in FC5 were too powerful so they really dumbed down the A.I. I was lucky if they managed to get in any kills in an open fight, they tend to just run around all over the place and die. The most competent one was Timber – a dog that spots enemies and one-hit mauls as he suited my stealth playstyle. Worst was probably the sniping granny that misses 90% of the time, even when the target is standing still, and literally YELLS AT THE ENEMY as she’s sniping them, breaking stealth.

Overall, really fun game. From Primal onwards it's been a great run of games. Can’t wait to see where the franchise goes next.

Goat Simulator– completed? and platinumed. There isn’t really a campaign as such, just a bunch of random tasks. This game was free with PS+ so decided why not? since many people seem to like it. It’s actually a lot of fun and the “quests” are kind of clever. I enjoyed completing them for the trophies to the point that I bought Goat Simulator MMO and got all the trophies there. Will probably get the other DLCs as well. The Flapmaster trophy is perhaps one of the hardest trophies I’ve achieved but I glad I got it - was never good at 2D platformers as a child and that has not changed!

I especially like the main map - some thoughtful platforming and a world size that is small enough to actually learn it off by heart rather than constantly referring to a map which I think games today would do well to take note of. Has a good sense of humour too with some cute little easter eggs and secret discoveries. The music is catchy as well lol.

Been a while since I’ve played a game with no "purpose" as such, just an endless run of random, dumb stuff. Felt like being a kid again. I'm actually seeking out similar games now.

I've completed two games over the last few weeks. The main one being Horizon Zero Dawn & The Frozen Wilds DLC that I enjoyed a lot. The setting and story were interesting, the gameplay enjoyable if nothing particularly new and I enjoyed getting the platinum trophy as there wasn't a huge amount of ridiculous collectibles to get.

I also played and got all trophies for Little Nightmares and the three DLC chapters in between playing HZD. It's a puzzle game that's enjoyable but it did have it's issues, especially the load times after dying which almost made me give up on the game. It was well worth the €7.99 I paid for the complete edition.

    Gato Roboto

A bite size Metroidvania. The best thing about it is that it's only about 3 hours long because it really doesn't do a whole lot special. Fine for a quick blast but it really doesn't stand out. Don't get the high praise for this one

    Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

A game of two halves. Really enjoyed the main storyline. The stealth gameplay worked so well in bite sized chunks and the smaller mission areas. It really feels like a follow up to the MGS VR mission pack.

Then there's the post game. This involves countless missions against vehicles and boss enemies which just aren't fun. I know the game was trying to emulate monster hunter but they just aren't that fun and there is an insane amount of them with very little variation between them. I'd much rather more stealth missions as they were way more fun and the game had a lot of fun with a few of them.

    Black Mesa

Hoooooly moly, what an utterly amazing remake of one of the greatest shooters of all time!
It's so damn good, like how I imagined Half-Life in my head.
Xen is just utterly beautiful, and the chase sequences are heart-pounding.

Only negatives are that it has a tendency to crash (it's stretching the Source engine to the limit)
And the AI is a littqle too accurate - I played on Normal and died in many, many firefights. However, this has the net effect of making the game properly tense - running out of ammo for a weapon can happen, and I love it!

    Life is Strange season 2.
    The Outer Worlds
    Far Cry New Dawn
    Goat Simulator

A Plague Tale: Innocence. Completed and platinumed. Said this before in the dedicated thread - it's another Last of Us clone. That's not to say it's not enjoyable, it is, but it's The Last of Us. The rats are the zombies and the older sibling/younger sibling strangers-at-first-family-by-the-end mirrors Joel and Ellie's father/daughter development. There's even "the child is special!" cliche to boot. Speaking of the rats, they are horrifying at first but the overuse of them kills their imposing nature in the back half of the story and they start to feel like nothing more than annoying inconvenience.

The best thing about the game are its central characters, Hugo and Amicia, and their relationship in general. Touching in a way that Life is Strange season 2 was going for. Gameplay is fine for the most part (save for the ill-conceived late game mechanic in chapter 14), nothing spectacular but solid enough to carry the story. The stealth is rather rudimentary but the final boss is decent.

Overall, a solid and heartfelt game if not slightly overrated.

I just finished Batman: The Enemy Within. I enjoyed it, the last two episodes were very good, the first three dragged a little bit though. As with all Telltale games, there is very little gameplay involved, it's all about the story which luckily ends up being enjoyable.

    Fire Emblem: Three Houses
    Borderlands 3: Moxxi's Heist DLC
    Control

A Plague Tale: Innocence - A solid 7 out of 10 experience for me. Great narrative, well thought characters with solid voice acting, and fun gameplay once you hit a certain point in the narrative.

Not sure I fully understand The Last of Us comparisons I've seen thrown around online. At its core, this is a puzzle game, a simple one at that but still a puzzle game. There is stealth in there, which I suppose is where the majority of The Last of Us comparisons stem from (along with the fact that it's one big escort mission), but even the stealth sections are more puzzle sections than anything else. If I was to compare it's core gameplay to anything, it would be the optional challenge tombs in the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy; environmenatal puzzles are the name of the game here.

I usually have a love/hate realationship with puzzle games as I really love them, but hate feeling like I'm banging my head off a wall for hours on end. But this wasn't the case here, the mechanics are all well explained as they are introduced and drip fed to you, meaning there is little room for confusion or frustration to get in the way of the very enjoyable story.

    [Xbox One]

    Borderlands 3

Great game took me a while to get used to the visual changes from previous games as I had just replayed Borderlands 1 and 2 prior to release of this. I actually finished the main story a couple of months ago but was just doing side missions slowly for some reason until I got hooked on the game again and flew through a fair bit of them. Mayhem 4 is not too bad to play solo once I got a tonne of Level 50 legendarys.

I stopped myself playing any more until there is a new level cap. Wasted XP is the reason I keep telling myself even though it is such a great game. Saying that though some days I jump in for a few rounds here and there.

I finished and for the platinum for Forgotten Anne last night. It's a puzzle/platformer game with an anime art style and a decent story line that tries to make a point about the environment. Some of the dialogue goes one for too long and it's not particularly hard but it's a fun game and was well worth the sale price of €7.99.

I remember this game looking incredible when it came out. It looks utter garbage now. It's a full motion adventure game and very dated. The story is shlock and the puzzles aren't very hard. There's a puzzle near the end just designed to waste your time. It's thankfully very short so doesn't overstay its welcome. You have 2 hours to beat the game and no saving but it's easily done in that time.

The brevity is actually a blessing as I beat it before it got boring. I enjoyed it.... but it isn't good!

GAME Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
    PLATFORM PS4

I originally started the XBLA version, until I saw the PS4 version via the Requiem bundle. Much better visually, and also had scanlines as an option, which I'm a sucker for.

Sweet sacred heart of Christ this game was immense. I didn't wanna rush through it like I usually do toward the end of an RPG. I wanted to pick this game apart like a fine comb.

I might not have gotten every item (I'd say there were a few enemy drops I didn't get) but I did end up with, arguably, the best weapons in the game (crissaegrim x2). I beat the game 200.6%, and it took me 14 hours.

I regret, regret, regret, regret, regret(!!!!!) not playing this game when I first heard of it.

If it's any consolation -from the eyes of someone playing it in 2020, it bloody well holds up, both aesthetically and from a gameplay perspective.

I intend on going through Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night next. Probably won't hold a candle to this but I have heard it's almost just as good. I've only dabbled in it.

If you are even slightly interested in RPGs and appreciate 2D visuals, and you haven't played this, WTF are you doing? Get it played t'f*ck!

I'm buzzing after this :pac: What a game.

One of the best. I enjoyed every single moment of it.

    Life is Strange season 2.
    The Outer Worlds
    Far Cry New Dawn
    Goat Simulator
    A Plague Tale: Innocence

Until Dawn. Completed and platinumed. I’m late to the party on this one because I hate horror and so have been evading this game for about 5 years lol. I’m glad I played it - it’s phenomenal. Incredibly cinematic, well directed with a good story and, it has to be said, polished. Not a single bug or optimisation issue which is more than I can say for another game I’m currently playing right now…

Sound design and music is excellent. Character models are good. The collectibles are meaningful, even for a non-completionist, because they’re needed to unravel the three intertwining mysteries which I think the story does really well. There's no filler - you're not going to be washing the dishes while executing awkward motion controls, DAVID CAGE. Every path taken pushes you head on - I never felt like I had to do the thing to do the thing.

I think what the game does best is building tension, fear and paranoia through it’s use of sound, music and jump scares even in moments where you’re perfectly safe – although on your first playthrough you do not know that. The totem collectibles - which range from 'death', 'danger', 'loss', 'luck' and 'guidance' - only add to that paranoia, actively changing the way you play because at the back of your mind is the impending doom. You can pick up a totem super early in the game that won't actually come into a effect until the final chapter.

On that note, the game is great at red herrings. For instance, if one of the totems shows a character dying by fire you will suddenly avoid getting that character near fire if you can help it, even if logically it could potentially save your life. As a result, there were times when I thought I had prevented said foretold death because of so-called obvious sign-posting... only to walk right into it much, much later on. :D There was only one story point that I rolled my eyes at when it was revealed due to being so cliched, and I hadn't even discovered the clues leading up to it on my first run (due to said character getting caught and preventing her from doing so).

As mentioned, the story is well written. It’s just a shame about the people in said story, particularly the ones with vaginas - some truly awful, awful female characters. Their personality traits range from bitchy to stupid to weak to needy. When they’re not whimpering and crying, they’re begging for the men to protect them. The only good female character was Sam (Hayden Panettiere) but she’s barely in it despite being on all the marketing. Oh, and clearly the makers have a thing for blondes – one of which can be seen running from the killer in nothing but a towel and the other, should you play your cards right, will literally be dragged away in just her knickers and bra with a few butt shots in for good measure. The main characters are the two males really – alpha male Mike and nerdy Chris. They get to be proactive decision makers - calling the shots, shooting shotguns and pistols and actively pursuing the threat while the women are all having stuff happening to them.

I do like how the characters have set personality traits that can adjust depending on your choices but they don't actually affect any of the crucial choices you make for the most part, it's mainly just affecting relationships between characters. What’s interesting is that I noticed that when you make a bold move as a male character his ‘brave’ personality trait goes up quite a bit while for the female character her ‘curious’ trait starts to peak.

Moving on... the finale is fantastic, really sticks the landing. It's filled with tension and split second decision-making. One wrong move can F it up for some or all of the characters. On my first playthrough only two of my characters survived because of a hasty decision at the end I did not think through. At least I got a trophy for it though. :D
