Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks for the thread Kcormahs, useful for spotters.

CityJet have 2 aircraft dedicated to the Aer Lingus operation inclusive of all services to BHX and LCY. So its 2/2 for WX. :)

So slow on the rest... ok that it’s summer season but airlines like Lufthansa American etc changed their liveries much quicker even at peak seasons

Huge airlines with likely much lower utilisation than Aer Lingus, even in peak summer so more aircraft available to repaint.

Also, Aer Lingus is trying to keep the costs of the rebrand down by ensuring repaints only happen when the aircraft would normally be scheduled for one, they aren't taking aircraft out early to repaint for the sake of it but waiting for its natural repaint cycle.

There are also some unknowns in the fleet, the original A321s, the future operator of the Regional franchise and the older A332s for example. We'll see more A320s and A330s repainted this winter, in addition there will be more newly delivered aircraft so the percentage of new livery vs old will increase considerably.

On the other hand airlines like United were slow to update their livery that at one point they had 3 liveries across the fleet.

There’s no tangible benefit to EI to repainting quickly. They have launched the brand refresh, all their promo material uses the new livery. I’m guessing they will ensure any new routes/photo worthy flights will utilize the new liveried frames. The relain only started in January. This coming winter they have December-March to repaint .

So basically they haven't painted anything since the rebrand push in May, just taken new deliveries with the livery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

    Correct

Full fleet is required during the Summer, expect quite a few repaints over the Winter

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 9,927 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

Taking aircraft out of service in peak season is a loss making decision. They will have already booked their paints hop slots for Jan/Feb/Mar next year.
They were very clear in January that the fleet repaint will have minimal cost overall.

Ex Flybe ATR 72 arrived in yesterday from Stockholm for Stobart. I wonder will it be the first in new Aer Lingus livery.

Approx a week for the A320’s. An A320 has been positioning to SNN every Sunday for the past 2-3 weeks for paint.

Anyone know when the ATR repaints will begin or are they waiting to see if the contract is renewed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,922 ✭✭✭GM228

I wish a MOD could correct the title to use the correct invariant noun "Aircraft".

Has bugged me since day 1 of this thread :D

I'd say they'll wait until the contract is secure. There's still a few years to go before the ATR's need a scheduled repaint anyway, the fleet averages at about six years old.

Looking forward to seeing an ATR in the new livery but it probably wont happen until the contract is tendered again. Will be lots of spare aircraft for whichever airline takes over the assets of FlyBE and with cityjet also likely to bid for the EI regional contract there may be some changes ahead.

I hope it doesn't look as awkward as the render they have their website! The double wedge of the ATR tail makes swoop liveries look strange, SAS did an okay job but it's not a natural fit for the design.

    https://flic.kr/p/2ihh2aE

I'm also wondering if we'll ever see a -200 in the new livery, most were freshly repainted not too long ago and it looks like Aer Lingus is actively replacing them at the nearest opportunity.

The new titles are much larger so won't fit between the first two doors as they do currently so unless they drastically shrink them (bad idea) they'll have a slightly messy appearance with the shamrock obscured by door 2 markings.

  • Registered Users Posts: 168 ✭✭EI321

I also am concerned about how the livery would look on cityjet CRJ-900s. The closeness of the engines to the tail would make it arkward. This is the only possible rendering I can find online:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=aer+lingus+crj&client=ms-android-samsung-gs-rev1&prmd=niv&sxsrf=ALeKk02QhTqI_OW4bSaiEIAsx2roRh8WzQ:1583578152542&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwju_oWqmIjoAhUkpnEKHQnkAs8Q_AUoAnoECA4QAg&biw=412&bih=722&dpr=2.63#imgrc=YvlkTaASpfICVM

Just a quick update, obviously no aircraft were repainted this winter but there have been a few changes all the same.

    A320

    EI-DVN
    EI-DVK - (mismatched engine cowlings)

    A321Neo LR

    EI-LRA
    EI-LRB
    EI-LRC
    EI-LRD
    EI-LRE
    EI-LRG
    EI-LRH

    7/7

    A330-200

    0/5

    A330-300

    EI-EDY - (mistmatched engine cowlings)
    EI-ELA - (mismatched engine cowlings)
    EI-EIM
    EI-EIN
    EI-EIK
    EI-EIL

    6/12

    ATR42/72

    0/12

So since the last update the two Avro RJ85s have officially left, as have three A320s including EI-DEC which wore the new livery. The older A321 and A332 fleets aren't likely to return from their current storage but there's been no official word so they can remain on the list for now.

There's also been a few deliveries including three A321LRs and two A333s but the number of repainted aircraft with white engine cowls is growing which is a shame but mostly unavoidable with such a small pool of repainted engines to choose from for parts.
