That water bs would annoy me.
Nothing wrong with the tap water in the city.

Can't speak for the Glass Curtain, but I live nearby, and the water from my kitchen tap is a bit cloudy (but drinkable), whereas the water from my bathroom tap is perfectly clear.

Perhaps a plumber could explain the reason for the difference... (the bathroom tap comes from the internal tank, so perhaps whatever is in the water settles in the tank?) but it could well be there are issues with water quality in the area. There has been a LOT of roadworks & pipe-relaying in the area over the last year, and the water has been anything from clear to white to dark brown.

I’m not a plumber but you only drink mains water! Don’t drink tank stored water.EVER

Is it true so, not to drink the water from the bathroom sink?

Yes, the only water to drink is the mains cold tap in the kitchen. The rest comes from the storage tank in the attic. Risk of stagnant water, also your little furry friends may be visiting.

Shout out to MYO Cafe on Popes Quay. They do lovely coffees and the staff are really nice. Also they have Gaeilge on their menu and takeaway cups.

The old bank in Mayfield is a lovely spot. Been a few times for lunch, great choice & specials.
Well priced & the service is excellent. Thoroughly recommend

Mayfield is my home town, and lovely to see something there. There's only so many funeral homes and petrol stations a community can manage lol!

    I must try there again.
I went when they weren't long open and had a falafel wrap but I thought it was really terrible. I found the bread very doughy and undercooked and I didn't like the spicing in it. I also didn't like how the falafel was smushed into the bread - no bite at all.
I love middle eastern food, so I will give it another go - perhaps they have improved.

I agree. Found it expensive for what you get. Tiny little dry piece of bread with a thin layer of falafel mix on it. Then covered in lettuce or something. €9 for 80% bread basically, and the bread wasn't great. Like those pre-made pizza bases you buy in Tesco. I have a photo of how small the serving was but uploading images to boards is a pain in the hole so you'll just have to use your imagination.

Edit: that was an extreme pain in the arse but here's a pic

Haha... I used to drink 1.5 litres of bathroom tap water in the morning when I was too hungover to go to the kitchen. Filled up a volvic bottle and chugged it all down. Is it not healthy? :pac: Somebody told me rats and mice could be swimming in the tank so I stopped eventually.

Yes! That water (in most cases) is stored in the attic in the tank, with no cover on it. Insects and mice aswell as insulation and tar and felt all floating in it

Any veridicts on that One One Five / 115 cafe by the Old Oak, the one that has the really nice conversion of the corner unit. Such a good location and pace to be seen in theory, but every time I pass even at lunch its relatively sparse. Something about the interior seems very bare/ cold, with the plastic chairs and big windows. Most people seem to keep their jackets on which says a lot. It seems like a place that would benefit big time from a few blankets, curtains, candles or fireplace. They sell wine as well as coffee and light food so could be great all day draw compared to say Cafe Nero which is across the way, but seems to get people in to stay a lot better.

Yeah, it's a great location and looks great; but it does have a "cafe" vibe to it more than a wine bar. I reckon if they want it to do better at night, dim the lights, and add table/spot lighting and it'd be a lot cosier.

Luckily when I renovated my house I put mains water in the bathroom for the reasons listed above

Maybe it's just me but I don't like the way it's so open. Doesn't seem to be a cosy spot.

Why not, are you swallowing it? Don't drink the toothpaste and bathroom water. Spit it out. In the sink.

Then, be good and clean the sink too.

This issue deserves a thread all of its own...

I have been drinking the bathroom sink water at night time because it's closer to my bed, but I'm hoping it's ok because I live in an apartment block.

Anyway, has anyone been to the Brazilian place on Washington Street for cheap munchies?

Sabor Nordestino. I think there's one in Dublin too.

I'm a bit tempted by the spaghetti with chips and rice :)

Yeah, I'm not a steak fan, but it looks good for the money. Definitely want to check the place out.

It's not exactly a beautiful space but I had a bowl of Beef Tendon soup noodles the other day and it was lovely - and cheap.

If I gave you a bucket of stagnant water containing dust and dirt from an attic, mouse droppings, perhaps even a dead/decomposing mouse floating in it, would you use it to wash your mouth out?

Went to Sonnys the other day and was faced with a queue that went out the door and around the corner. It moved pretty fast tho and i left with a salad bowl that was pretty great.
In the past it wasn't great however so i hope they keep it consistent. Not a knock on the taste , but the roast spuds have a very heavy fry in some sort of paprika oil. I like it but it can't be too healthy given the amount of saturated fat!

I'm quite partial to a Reuben sandwich so tried Sonnys around two weeks ago, didn't realise how busy it was so pretty much everything was sold out when I got there & queued for ten mins. Tried again today but went for an early lunch & plenty to choose from. The Reuben was very tasty & only had to wait a few mins but the queue was building as I was cycling away.

    Totally gratuitous food pic :)

Finally got to eat in Elbow Lane last night. Loved it, nice atmosphere, attentive staff, lovely roasted chickpea things with a glass of their craft beer. had the ribeye and my usual trick of ordering a medium-well and getting a medium worked a treat - this isn't solely an elbow lane issue, pretty much every where I go tends to require this and I'm used to it. But the steak was fantastic, oyster mushrooms were decent but not fantastic and washed it down with another glass of beer - really enjoyable meal.

Agree, love the steaks and the whole fish on the bone sometimes
Sides are not that great IMO
