Eir FTTH internal networking question

My brother currently has FTTH. There is a modem in the attic and a long ethernet cable going from the "LAN" port in that modem down to the WAN port in the Eir Router.

Afaik, the Eir router establishes a connection to the internet using some settings as configured in the router.

My brother is trying to put his PC in the attic (just tall enough to stand) as a small office. He doesn't want to have to run an ethernet cable down through the stud wall again just to connect to the LAN part of the router.

Can he put a switch in front of the FTTH "Modem" and use the PC to connect to the WAN? If so, how does one go about this? I know it's a bit weird but my CCNA expired many moons ago and I'm not overly familiar with this.

Simply put no.

If he wants to avoid running an Ethernet cable he would bring the modem/router up to the attic and feed the home office from that.

* Bring Eir router back up to attic and connect to Eir ONT/ODP etc with a short network cable.

* Take an output from this Eir router to his attic based office.

* Use existing network cable in wall to feed a switch downstairs (if needed).

Thanks. Yeah that's pretty much what ronoc said too. I think it's the best option. Will probably just get a dedicated wireless router/switch.
