I didn't want to waste peoples time on politics with this one.
Is it legal to have election posters up already?

Plenty of posters up around the country. Lots of campaign material coming in through the doors around our way

Didn't think photos would be any good since I can't prove the year. Might take another one with a newspaper in my hand.

If that's recent then you can report it to the council and he will be fined.

This is one fxcker I really hope doesn't get a seat. Parts of Limerick are in his constituency so fingers crossed.

And look, greatest respect to anyone that puts themselves out there, I just don't like this guy; an absolute wanker amongst **** and I wouldn't vote for him.

Officially LA but an email and pic to local papers/radio stations might have an effect! :D

Are they election posters or posters advertising a "public meeting"? Just before elections are called you often see election posters up with a sticker over them with details of a public meeting that the candidate is attending. Then when the date is official the sticker is removed and it magically transforms into a now legal election poster. It's a common enough scam to get the posters up early.

Yeah, the council will need to send their guy out to inspect, they don't fine on the basis of photos. If the election is called between now and that time then no fine. I'm betting no fine.

That said DCC issued €30k worth of fines last time out

I too wondered that but pic has no reference to a public meeting.

    Contact litter warden.

It has Vote 1 on it, so election poster. Could well be over-enthusiastic minions at work! They can be a feisty bunch, minions, come election time.

In Dublin at least public meeting posters can only give 25% over to the candidate's name and photo.
I assume it's the same in the rest of the country.

You can see the full poster in my picture. No info on a public meeting.

I can guarantee, if it was here, the council litter warden would be out tomorrow and a fine would definitely be issued. I've seen them in action before.

He is right to put it up. The election campaign has begun. Game on.

Isn't is fcking mad anyway that election posters still go up. In this day and age with social media, the web, etc that posters are still relied on.

But the rules state that he can't put it up until a polling day is set and it can also not be 30 days before that polling date.
I'm open to correction of course, that's why I started the thread.

Ignorance of the law is rife. It's considered littering unless within the timeframe permitted during an election campaign. €150 fine per poster outside that date. Notices of public meetings are allowed if a licence has been sought from the council. By law, Littering it most certainly is. You must think litter is just stuff thrown in the street.
