What is this ceiling cladding/insulation? material

Hi. When I was in Denmark recently the houses I visited had this material on the ceilings. Most were open plan bungalows with vaulted ceilings. My friend told me that a lot of new builds are using this material and that it comes in different colours. Does anyone know what it is and is it used for it's insulation properties?
