Listened to the rugby "debate" today. I thought it was very poor. I'm sure Jerry Flannery is a nice guy but he doesn't seem to be the biggest of bulbs. And I don't know if Sinead O'Carroll was trying to take a different tack to Flannery or something but she wasn't great either.

Don't forget the Absolute Kearnage one as well.

Phil Neville/DAvid Brent was this year too. Not a patch on the Succession one though.

    Just listening to today's pod.

Bringing the magic back to the FA cup is surely simply a matter of bringing back Ken's Goooooooools?

Seems like he just wanted a bit of Twitter attention. Liverpool are nowhere near as guilty as most clubs for spending. They've built their squad quite organically.

The lad who posted it worked out that he roughly sends 76 on average each day...wow.

Don't think Miguel is that bad a contributor, if it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't know he winds so many people up.

Think it's more his Twitter persona that annoys people than his broadcast segments.

To be fair he will debate with people but in a "I'm right no matter what you say" kind of way.

Just finished Richies book last night and thought it was great. Not a big fan of autobiographies normally but found it very interesting. A lot of young men could do with reading it I think

I’m the same however I didn’t think he was making much sense on this one. Liverpool are far from the highest spending club, either in net transfer spend or payroll. When Ken put it to him that they were just as valuable ten or twenty years ago when they weren’t even qualifying for Champions Leagues, his reply was “that’s my point” ?!

When i hear Miguel Delaney is on the show I usually give the show a skip or fast forward his part. There is only one guy worse (one whos name should not be mentioned:D)

Haven't heard too much of Miguel Delaney but never found him in anyway unlikeable. Not on twitter so have no clue on that but interesting that quite a few seem to have little time for him.

I haven't listened yet and I don't really mind him, but based on this I reckon I'll skip it!
Sounds like a click generating article from Miguel Delaney. Best thing he posted recently was his bad guinness

Usually I feel like Miguel isn't the worst when he's on the show, but his argument yesterday was a load of nonsense. And I have no love for Liverpool.

There was probably a grain of truth somewhere in what he was arguing, but he was blowing one aspect of his argument out of proportion and disregarding everything else.

Like I've said, I don't think he's their worst contributor, despite his reputation, but he was spoofing big time yesterday. Even Ken called his argument "thrash", in a jokey way of course, but I'd suspect he did actually believe it was exactly that.

I imagine mcKenna will now get on the Liverpool bandwagon bashing considering they are likeable and he loves nothing more than bashing something that is popular. If SC ever have him on for anything they would lose my subscription

They've had him on a number of times, as recently as last month:

They had him on before Christmas. Cheerio.

Ah here, I know he's a bit of a wind up merchant, but he's not David Irving.

I don't use Twitter or any of that guff, but still can't stand Delaney. His voice straight away is overly loud and irritating and his stammering, inarticulate style of speaking isn't suited to radio/podcasts. I usually skip whenever he's on, cos he only irritates me. No other SC contributor gets on my nerves nearly as much as him.

I'm a fan of LFC and not of Miguel, but to be honest he has a bit of a point. He wasn't having a go at Liverpool as such, rather taking issue with structural issues in football arising out of the financial dominance that's getting concentrated in a relatively small number of clubs. I don't think he did an especially good job of communicating it, and he's well able to put a slant on something to ensure social media impressions.

Maybe, but his point would've been more valid last season or the season before when big spending City were racking up massive points totals. He's cited Liverpool, who haven't won the title for 30 years and have a relatively small net spend. They didn't even buy a first team player last summer IIRC.

The wider point is probably valid, the stratification of standards driven by money, but in this case Miguel has it wrong framing it around Liverpool IMHO.
There is an elite of European clubs, of which Liverpool is one, that are pulling away financially, driven by Champions League money and the exposure that CL success gives them. However, Liverpool's success in recent years is not primarily driven by this, certainly City, Chelsea, and probably United have deeper pockets.
Miguel would know that using Liverpool as a headline grab would provoke a reaction. Clever up to a point, but less than accurate reportage at the same time.

He picked liverpool because they're currently the big dogs but he wasn't going after them as such, could just as easily have been city last year.

His wider point was that there are 8 or so Super Clubs that have massive amounts of money compared to everyone else. Liverpool are currently the best run and best coached of these so they're on top but it is increasingly difficult for any smaller club to break into this group.

And their net spend is only low because another one of these Super Clubs paid them 250 odd million for two players. It's a good point about financial inequality in football, perhaps could have been articulated better.

I don't see how the point is any different to other aspects of life/the world. Now what is a bit different is states buying clubs (city/psg)

His bit on that lad Knight at Derby is a prime example of why I look forward to his appearances.

argreed. He's not in the cosy merry-go-round of other correspondents who pop up on similar pods and gives a refreshingly Irish/Dublin slant on things.

All i think of Sneyd is his bit about Declan Rice "the young fella makes me so angry"

edited to reflect the actual statement :-)
