Yep, except there are only 2 chargers in City North currently open at the moment.

Unfortunately the next 2 locations to open are opposite sides of the same motorway stop near Kill. Having the new locations more spread out would be my preference for now while infrastructure is so thin on the ground at the moment.

Unfortunately all 4 chargers in Athlone are off line right now ;( I'm just off the phone with them now and they're sending a technician out, but can't confirm when they'll be back working ;(

On balance absolutely delighted to have them here but a few teething issues with people connecting and starting charges etc so more work to do on the software side as well.

    All offline?

Why are CCS chargers unreliable crap?

Seem to be down more than they are up

Yep, all 4 in Athlone. Less than 1 hour after I rang, all 4 back up again. Heading there now so wish me luck ;)

While they're having teething issues, they're up high 90% of the time.

But only used 10% of the time... that 10% is when they're offline :D

Can confirm, Ionity Athlone working fine now ;)

4 chargers here, 1 ICEd despite ample free parking.

Also an own brand Circle K charger here too. It's CCS (currently out of order) and Chademo. Interestingly, it only lets you charge to 80% which is a good idea to keep rapids available. They are not currently charging money to use this charger either.

There's also two "chargepoint" brand chargers, that appear to be type 2 tethered AC units? Separate propriority app required for those.

Not a bad place to stop so!

Great to hear Athlone is working again, I will probably need them Saturday and Sunday.

Was that CCS not finally put in operation like a week ago? It surely has to be to do with the fact there are ionity CCS chargers nearby? Free leaf charging only eh?

Unclear, machine was reporting CCS was out of order. Four 150kWh machines from Ionity across the car park so no complaints ;)

I would guess the CSS has been disabled on the Circle K charger,so it is not used by CSS users, when there are alts available (ionity)

I charged there over christmas on CCS (Check plugshare checkin for photo verification :P:P)

They are not, there are power issues in athlone site affecting all. Just because there are 5 CCS and 1 chademo down, doesnt mean it's a CCS problem, just that there are more CCS plugs.

FWIW I had an issue at the blanchardstown FCP on new years day, using chademo, my car stopped at 16% SOC after about 15 mins charging. The charger rebooted and I could not restart a charge so used the AC and went to mcdonalds for breakfast.
Went on to Navan and the CCS worked first time.

Can confirm, this is not the case
See my checkin on plugshare charging on CCS there, with photos to prove!

Charged at Athlone on 3rd Jan. Tried paying with IONITY app with credit card and app got stuck. Tried paying with debit card and app got stuck. I followed the same procedure that I was told to use when I had similar problems in Cashel ie pay in app first then plug in. When I tried with paypal it worked straight away. Also tried Maingau card and nothing happened but I’m not sure what the procedure is for this.

Am in the Athlone plaza now, arrived with 8kms left after forgetting to charge my car last night for my trip today

The double head Circle K charger is out of action, neither side is working. I can’t find the app for the charger beside it (think it’s only 22k anyway) It took me 20 mins to get the Ionity to work, manigau card wouldn’t work so had to go through the app which took ages and two attempts to start the charger.

No 2 Ionity charger is out of action as well.

Ionity sounds like a complicated mess?

God help us when we have 1 million EVs on the road in 10 years, not even 6000 now and sounds like a shambles

I'd expect these Ionity Athlone type issues to be eliminated as the network 1 million EVs requires - gets developed.

A key part of developing the network in future is enduring maximum uptime for all chargers.

Making sure the machines are reliable and maintained.

Ensuring the local power infrastructure is solid.

I consider that perhaps battery storage will be a key part of ensuring power supply is enhanced.

Porsche I recall were talking of how when cars were not charging on 350 kw chargers - they would look at having battery storage being fed with power.

And when charging - that battery storage would support the delivery of 350 kw to the car.

What's puzzling about Ionity is that users like Bjorn Neyland seem to have superior or rather less crap reliability outside Ireland then Athlone does.

The install needs a look - so that lessons can be learned and future charging made better.

Did the few people with issues at Athlone above report this to Ionity?

They answer the phone quickly most times I've rang.

    Here's their number...

    +35316917020

If enough of us call in we might get it properly sorted for once and for all?

I'll be there tomorrow and can report back.

I may be wrong but I believe Ionity are using different manufactures to supply chargers in different country’s ?

Ionity really need to up there game here and sort things out fairly soon. Tesla has shown them all how it can be done with the superchargers.

Lots of people looking at switching to EVs and if people hear talk about an unreliable charging network they may delay switching.

My car battery was nearly as dead as my phone so couldn’t ring them. 2 of them are showing as not working on Zap Map now now.

Ironically, when trying to start the charge with the app, I only had 3g coverage at the charger but when inside the building I had super fast 4g!! Not great when you are trying to use an app or internet to start a charger!!

Should be basic requirement for app-activated chargers to have a wifi hotspot built-in. Would barely cost them anything extra in the grand scheme of things either.

App is called Chargepoint and it also works well for Ionity - it costs 6.18 to charge using it. It is also vastly superior to Ionity app as it integrates with Google Pay to there is not need to type passwords or credit card numbers.
    Link to app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coulombtech

If you have smaller charging needs than 15.45 kWh then Maingau app is called EinfachStormLaden and is available here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.chargecloud.maingau

Both of them work on Ionity Athlone, and Chargepoint also works on A/C charger there and ecars I think. The can use NFC so you could just swipe your phone when using charger.

Just found the app there now thanks.

I have a manigau card but last two times I was Ionity it didn’t work. It was looking for me to scan a QR code or start the charge from the app.

I have called to/used the Ionity Chargers 10 times at this stage mainly Athlone. 1 time I could not charge at all. 1 time I could not get the charge to stop immediately when I wanted it to. I had eight sucessfull charges half Ionity App half Maingau. We get a very bad impression of the service on here as people are more motivated to post when they have problems. I am not saying there are not problems but mabe not as bad as the impression given on boards.ie

That's a real problem on this forum. We have people who have never used a fast charger telling us how crap the charging network is. I think it's nowhere near as bad as it's painted, because I've only ever encountered a couple of problems (queues). Even before charging fees came in, I only found queues at chargers near Dublin.

    Very harsh and broad statement.
I’ve used a good few fast chargers at this stage and no problems with them but I’ve had to use the Ionity 4 times at this stage and each time they were tricky to get started. Manigau cars worked the second time I was there and didn’t last two times. Second last time I was there I used the screen on the charger to stop the charge (as per the instructions on it) yet the charge is still ticking away on my app. When I rang them they said it was a glitch in the app.

I’ve used ESB and EasyGO FCP in places I’ve never visited before and no problems (see my posts about the few trips I done last week) so not a newbie using them.

I charge there about 2-6 times per week and indeed every time I manage to get charge. However there is always something not working at this location and I often have to move to another charger which takes time and is pretty frustrating. This is better than single charger locations but still not a good service.

I wasn't commenting on people who are having problems connecting to chargers. Just people who have never owned an EV, yet feels qualified to comment on how crap Ionity/CCS/ESB etc are. So rather than a broad statement, it was rather pointed... without pointing the finger directly at any one poster. :)

Got mine in the post yesterday. Had signed up on the website using goggle translate.
Easier said than done. I've tried a few times to get one sent to me, without success.

Can anyone outline the way that worked for them?

    Thanks.

Ionity has just placed an order with ABB for another 324 chargers, they are a slightly slimmer design than the current ones.
