Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3 - 2 in their Division 1 fixture.

Matić, Immobile and Lemar were amongst the goalscorers.

    23' - Matic (1-0) :)
    50' - Jesus (1-1) :(
57' - VVD Red Card
    69' - Fernando (1-2)
    74' - Lemar (2-2) :D
    87' - Immobile (3-2) :eek::pac::cool:

    Epic encounter. Sorry, Real! :)

My first game as Everton manager Sunday evening, I’m playing a Napoli team who seem to be a good side with consistency problems. Hoping not to lose as it’s away from home I’d take a draw if offered. Feel my squad is good enough to escape the dreaded relegation zone however only 3 wins so far this season doesn’t back up my claims.

They were unmanaged for a good chunk of that time so that probably explains the poor results. :)

Hopefully the players have a point to prove! My squad is beyond massive, I’d 80 first team players, can’t be good for exam morale!

Its is a tough enough league, there are no stand out 'bad' team that are obvious candidates to go down and 73time champion s man city even managed to get relegated once

Even more bizarre than that, he won it two seasons in a row before being relegated the following season. :pac:

He then won promotion the following season, followed by winning Division 1 again on his return.

A fairly dramatic few seasons in Manchester! :pac:

The next season must have been very anticlimactic as they only laboured to a 9th place finish.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 8,576 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wilberto

Oh, it goes on though, because after that 9th place finish, they went on to win the title for four seasons in a row. :pac:

Poor result to start my reign as Everton manager, feel like I don’t have the striker to drag me away from the drop zone. I like Martinez in real life and think he will be a star at Inter but I’m not confident in his ability for me at Everton judging on his stats thus far.

Need to be playing a higher rated striker like an 89/90

Bigtime seems we are losing one every day now.

Yep too few managers has led to huge bloated squads and I include mine in that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,231 ✭✭✭Hercule Poirot

Problem is no one has a chance to build anything given the current status quo - all the best players and all the hot prospects have been snapped up

It would take a new manager years and years of real time to be anywhere near competitive and I'd say most people couldn't be arsed

Should have been enforced from the start. Could still be worth trying to do though

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,231 ✭✭✭Hercule Poirot

Considering the low number of managers not just a squad cap but a ratings cap as well, for example, you can have only three 95+, twenty 90 to 94, etc etc

Not those exact figures but something like that

But it's all just talk because you'd need all managers to buy into it and to be fair some guys have spent 6/7 years building their teams and won't want to dismantle them - and they shouldn't be forced to either (not that you can force them, but you know what I mean)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,750 ✭✭✭redzerdrog

Even a reasonable squad cap of say 40 first team plus 60 youths would still allow people to hold onto what they have built and still somewhat stop to the hoarding of players

One team having nearly 50 goal keepers is a bit of a joke alright. Squad cap of 25 first teamers plus 75 youths should keep everyone happy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 822 ✭✭✭king size mars bar

IT is tough to try build or better a squad when players who would make your team are warming a bench in other clubs and never become available.

Sorry lads can’t comment on SM as chat is disabled thanks to someone getting precious.

Another option would be a Boards 2 league and implement all these criteria from start. This gw dying a slow death anyway

You did, but nothing has changed since with regards the game mechanics. I believe that the majority of managers always backed squad caps provided they were enforceable, but they just aren't so the discussion pretty much ends there.

It's been the key glaring omission in Soccer Manager for quite some time now and that clearly doesn't look like changing any time soon due to the blatant ineptitude and/or apathy of the owners.

The game as a whole is dying a slow death, not just our league.

On a somewhat related note, the whole SM Elite thing is pretty hilarious too. It's a partnership between SM and Xaya (some cryptocurrency crowd). Xaya have their part of the project done (and done for a while too) while SM are still dawdling with their side. It's only at Alpha stage now even though the game as a whole should have been ready sometime last year.
