Not meant to be disrespectful to the late Gay Byrne or Marian Finucane RIP.
Who else would merit a Late Late tribute?
Ryan Tubridy and Mike Murphy are a bit lightweight, Pat Kenny although authoritative is merely a good journalist. Did Terry Wogan get one?
Bono perhaps or Bob Geldof? Anyone else?

RTE will be soon doing death notices. The Late Late Show loves bringing us stories of disease, death and misery on a Friday night, to save money and make money it will be one step further and it will be death notices.

I would say Marian Finnucane will almost definitely get a Late Late Special ... being an employee of RTE means its a gimme. Not sure about Mike Murphy, Twink, Pat Kenny ... all a bit lightweight and have had spells outside RTE and maybe courted a little bit of controversy during their long careers too.

I think it would have to be an Irish person or strong Irish association. Who has lived to a fairly ripe old age and was famous for maybe more than one thing (Ideally humanitarian type stuff which will please the luvvies in RTE...or obviously be an actual RTE employee) ...and maybe had an international profile.

Politicans - Bill Clinton, Michael D. Higgins, Mary Robinson, Bertie Ahern (just maybe ???)

Musicans - Van Morrison, Bono, Finbar Furey ... Christy Moore (Did he already have one??)

Other - Billy Connolly, Pat Shortt (maybe.. in a good few years time), Seamus Heaney (Did he have one already?)

Pat Kenny and Ryan Tubridy both hosted the show so it would be weird if they didn't get a tribute.

Its a good question actually. We don't seem to be producing characters of substance anymore.
Radio/TV careers seem too either short and/or too 'shallow' these days.

I guess you would do Late Late tributes to Pat Kenny, Joe Duffy, Ivan Yates, Vinny Browne, Bono, Claire Byrne? Ian Dempsey? McAleese/Robinson.

    After that??

(Tubs doesn't deserve one. He never interviewed anyone - he just listened to the sound of his own voice and scared children)

If we're talking current/ex RTE employees, John Bowman is up there with anyone.

Op here. I am taking about a full LLS being done for someone. Who has got one done up to now. Did Gerry Ryan or Terry Wogan get one?

I think if U2 ever retire a LLS tribute would be on the cards.

Christy Moore has his own late Late special every single year

It's Yates and I think he has had a fascinating career and is a superb interviewer.
