Min wage doesn’t apply to a teenager babysitting.

Pizza and a 10ee, maybe 20 quid if it’s a very late night is about all I’d be paying a teenage relation to watch tv and check in on a child now and again.

Why don't you just get your Mammy to do it for free?

Women are all for breaking the glass ceiling and gender equality for traditional male roles. But ask them if they think a male childcare worker should be hired in their child's creche and they become as bigotted as a bunch of old men in suits in a smoke filled boardroom in the 1950s.

Yes, all women think like that. Each and every one of us. It's the hive mind, you see.

    .

No you clearly have a problem with it.

You mention it every thread as a barometer that other people’s career choices and earnings should be judged against.

Recent careers belittled have been IT workers, office workers, teachers and those supporting the frontline homeless. And God forbid if a WOMAN earns more than you!

I’m actually not sure if you are trolling builders, presenting them as Neanderthals on purpose.

Used be a male 18-19 year old baby sitting round our way one time , one couple that used get him , the wife would drop him home when they got back from night out . Apparently the wife used get her piece of the babysitter on this trip home . Everyone happy as the hubby was in a coma from booze back at the ranch .

    Apparently? You know this how?

While I don't agree with the other poster.... apparently we now have collective responsibility/guilt for the male gender... Simply being male makes you vulnerable to all manner of claims.

    Now stop bare faced lying.

Who said you must have been molested?

Actually, if you can take out their Queen the rest of them fall into disarray with no strong opinions universally held by the collective.

The Queen must be dead, then. Who was she, by the way?

No children so this is hypothetical but yes, I’d hire a male babysitter. Any babysitter hired is given good consideration for trustworthiness. I see no reason why a teenage boy wouldn’t pass that test just like a girl.

Nobody said BDI had been molested, but he reads it as so. As I said, an unhealthy interest.

Read on boards before that TUSLA advise that teenage boys don’t babysit foster kids!

Probably. But who would hire a male babysitter that's black.

So you want to leave a teenager alone in the middle of nowhere in charge of your kids and pay them less than €4 an hour....... Good luck with that.....

I recently heard of a female relative of one of my in-laws, I've known the whole family many years, she was going through some mental health difficulties and attended counselling as part of her treatment.

As a result of the counselling, she has of late spoken to all of her family to tell them that her eldest and second eldest brother molested her while she was in their care as a young girl, both of them mid to late teenagers. Needless to say it has caused massive upheaval in the family.

I honestly wouldn't trust a teenage male undergoing sexual development to babysit another child, I'd be too concerned that even the most outwardly normal well adjusted kid might just get inappropriate thoughts and act on them.

Trained male carers in a professional setting? 100% fine. Random teen lads? Its just not worth the risk. I really don't want to label all males, but as a man I would never put myself in a situation where I would be alone with kids not my own or close relatives where questions might be asked.

    That is labelling all males!
Why does a few years of training mean it's 100% fine? Have you never heard of institutional abuse?

Horrible that people here would accuse me of either being a molester or molested because I don’t want to hire a male babysitter.

One of them even calling me a barefaced liar when it’s there in black and white.

Very few people will hire a male babysitter.

We had a male babysitting service called the Catholic Church. Look what happened there. I have no interest in equal opportunities for the sexes in childcare.

I don’t want even ten kids in the world molested to prove a point that most men arnt peedos. It is a job that would attract peedos. Most men wouldn’t want to do that for a job. Why were there so many peedo priests? Because that’s a job they gravitate towards. Access to children.

If you can’t factor that in to your reasoning you live in a vacuum and not the real world.

Again I see no Benifit in a male minding my kids. Why would I change the industry to one where males mind the kids?

Why are people willing to say that I must fancy kids if I don’t want this? That’s horrible and the action of a person who’s methods you’d have to question whether they should even mind their own kids.

That’s horrible. Why do you care so much about men having close supervision of other people’s children that you would be willing to throw such abuse.

I don't believe this to be true. Not that someone posted it on another thread but that TUSLA give this advice. The last time my sister fostered was about two years ago but she has just told me that she has never had any advice like that from TUSLA

Yep I’m calling you a liar. It’s me. I am Spartacus.

Tell me where anyone called you a molester or were molested.? Not one person said that.

Again, you being everything back to MALE and FEMALE outdated stereotypes and job roles. The men must work and the women must clean up after them and bear their children, as you said on another thread.

    Clearly living in the past.

No one accused you of molesting anyone or of being molested.
The Catholic Church was not a babysitting service.
No-one has said you must get a male babysitter, but you would never allow a male to babysit. There is a difference. No-one will force you to get one, but there is nothing wrong with any male wanting to babysit as a young lad for extra money, or even as an adult to make a career working with children.

You have an extremely bad attitude towards men, & given that you are male, it's strange & maybe you need to get some help with it?

Bad attitude against anyone who does not work on a building site.

Maybe had a bad experience with a jumbo breakfast roll?

Anewme I think you should apologise to me especially. I will go away from this thread and give you time to calm down.

I shall keep my account until I get my apology then probably leave this place. It was a category mod who posted one of them posts.

BDI I think it is you who needs time to calm down. You are reading a lot more into posts here than I believe users mean.

Let's not equate Male babysitter = paedophile, this is not helping anything.

Never said it was, just I wouldn’t hire one.

I am out of this thread though can I ask not to be quoted and any questions pm me.

    Thanks guys.

I used to babysit for my neighbours when they went for a night out when I was about 15/16 - three girls between the ages of 2 and 8.

A handy 20/30 quid every few weeks wasn't too be sniffed at - I remember at the turn the Millennium they gave me 70 quid to babysit that night

It was relatively easy money - if any of them woke up usually an episode of Barney or My Little Pony (depending on which one it was) would have them back to sleep again

Not that I have kids myself but if I did I'd have no problem with a male sitter as long as I knew them, no more than you would a female sitter I suppose
