I love the way he takes the piss out of institutions like colleges and professional organisations, like scientists and rocket scientists, in particular. The guy nailing a rocket together, while another creeps up with an inflated paper bag...

This was part of the counter display used to promote the last of Gary Larson's calendars back in 2001. I was working for Ottakar's Bookshop at the time and managed to save it for myself. Some of his favourite characters feature - I always had a soft spot for the cows myself. I recently had it framed and all I need now is somewhere to hang it.

I... don’t love him. Generally I’m first in line for silliness but his cartoons don’t do much for me. I like more laughs then I get out of his comics. They feel a little unimaginative to me or something.

Is there more to this other than the kid pushing when it says pull?

It's probably a comment on middle class people not accepting that they may have 'slow' children.

yeah, I'd say that's the message he was hoping to get across.

I doubt it is anything to do with class. It is more a booksmart vs. streetsmart joke. You can be incredibly intelligent but have your head in the clouds.

It's also fairly relatable; have none of you ever pushed on a pull door and taken too much time to figure out the problem?

Anyone have the one that shows the container metaphor of the mind - that it's not up to the job?

Love him but I love anything surreal.

My youngest as a child cut out and put one of his cartoons up in her room...It was a horse and a pony looking over a fence at a little girl and her mother. The pony looks at its mother and says mom mom please can I have a little girl! please please.
