Perjury prosecutions

If a previous thread exists, please merge. I’ve just finished reading an article in The Atlantic about perjury and it’s importance in restraining political corruption: “court is one of the places where facts still matter”. I’m curious about the status of perjury as an offence in Irish law and if there is a reluctance to prosecute for it. As OP I will add that I think it should be prosecuted more than I am aware of and should carry mandatory custodial sentence. I think as a means of compelling honesty from witnesses it has a lot to be said for it. The legal views would be very interesting.
