    Rubbish.

There are many happy EV owners here who, combined, have driven hundreds of thousands of kilometers without much issue. Much even pre Ionity & ECars charging - the network has vastly improved since & will improve further.

Back to an ICE with you .

What a ridiculous reply as more EV cars hit the current infrastructure will not be able to cope. What in the name of god has ICE got to do with a charging infrastructure thread.

    Its not just ireland

Ionity is a shambles in many European countries too, loads of complaints everywhere

Tesla need to finish its network here, owners deserve it

What are Tesla’s plans for expansion does anyone know.

Hello to the white Tesla model 3 performance that also struggled at Ionity Athlone today.
    Farce of a system.
Tried to pay first on app and on website but charger wouldnt initiate.
Tried paying with credit card and paypal.
Rang the helpdesk, after numerous attempts and changing to a new bay it didnt work.
Said she was escalating to Level 2 helpdesk and would be sorted in 5 minutes.
Used the Circle K facilities and got a coffee as its baltic and wet to be standing at a charger today.
Rang helpdesk again after 10 minutes, same issue. Told them it was a disgrace and I would never use their system again.
Both of us had to leave with no charge.
I would avoid at all costs.
P.S. 4 paypal €8 transactions and some on my credit card also which I was told would be reimbursed for.

That’s a serious pain in the ........ when they don’t work. Last time I was there it took two attempts to get it going.

There’s another FCP in Athlone as well but with the week that’s in it, traffic locally is a nightmare.

Is it just me, or is the Athlone Ionity charging having much more issues over any of their other sites?

I've used Cashel a number of times and had no bother.

Irelands EV and charging network is still in the early adopters phase. It's even still in the early stages of early adopters.

To my mind a huge part of the issue is the apparent lack of support for these chargers - I mean chargers in general.

As in engineers and the charger manufacturers coming out to fix the problem.

Part of the future is going to have to be ultra fast response - going to need support teams on standby to get to these chargers to minimise downtime.

What I can't figure is how all FOUR are down in Athlone.

There seems to be a few issues alright which is a pity. Few on here have had no problems though which is good the hear.

At least there is a Circle K charger there too.

Just wont rely on that for now, Kilbeggan still offline too.
Previous poster is correct, too slow to fix this required infrastructure.

My experience with Ionity Athlone is based on two attempts.

First try the whole station was without power. They couldn't even sell petrol, just coffee.

The second one, the charger would disconnect after few minutes. After queuing 15 mins to get a coffee I found out I charged only few km. Reconnect and charge for another 10 mins at approx 50kW rate and disconnected again. At that point I left. When contacted the CS said it must have been my car or me.

    Guten Tag,
    ...
We had a look at yesterdays charge logs and error logs at connector IE*ION*E410802. Both your charging sessions have been stopped by the same "error".
    These logs saying: "ChargeStopped:VehicleProtocolError"
Many causes can result in errors in communication between the car and the charging station. Sometimes it is the driver himself creating an error by wrong handling.
We know that both sides, the car manufacturers as well as the charging station manufacturers work on troubleshooting. Unfortunately we are not informed about the progress made in this respect.
Certain EV-models are know as creating faults extra often. Here is an extract of an incomplete list: Tesla Model 3, Jaguar i-Pace, Hyundai Kona.
We hope this information is of some assistance to you.
    Have a wonderful day.

Is kilbeggan still down? That’s very bad form. I was there last Friday but was in the Zoe and didn’t need a charge.....ohh to have 300kms range!!

I’ll be passing again in the next few days and will check it again.

The last time Ionity Athlone worked for me it took two attempts to start it and my Manigau card didn’t work, I had to use PayPal and two transactions were shown on my account - neither charge went through though!

When I was leaving, a couple were trying to charge an Ionic, their first time to use Ionity, and they signed up to them on the spot and started a charge straight away.

So just issues with "Tesla Model 3, Jaguar i-Pace, Hyundai Kona"
The above reply from Ionity just isnt good enough IMO.

It seems Tesla changed software on the model 3 to work with Ionity better, so there may be some truth stating car manufacturers may be able to update cars to solve some charging issues. You would think this would be ironed out before the cars go on sale, but even Tesla did not do that.

    They are both at fault.

I frequently use and indeed once or twice I struggled to start a session. Perhaps connectivity is problematic at this location. Hopefully Circle K would fix charger so we would have alternative.

I had 8, only 1 actually went through

The Irish public charging system is simply not fit for purpose it’s a complete mess.

I'm at over 150k EV km at this point in 3 EVs since 2016
It's never been as good as it is right now. I'm happy with the network now, as it is now.
In order to future proof, more and faster chargers are needed but I have no issues, can travel anywhere at proper speeds, and be reasonably sure of a charge on the way. I have 4 options, in priority, Ionity, Tesla, Easygo, Ecars.

What is the actual steps for the ionity chargers, there's reports that the instructions are wrong on the actual chargers? I remember watching a Bjorn nyland video about it a while back.

    Instructions are wrong
    Correct instructions are on plugshare
You must pay then connect the cable to the car

I’ve only used the Gorey IONITY site but for me it’s worked every time *eGolf* My last charge there it charged up the car but had an issue when disconnecting. All that happened was I got my charge but I didn’t get billed for it ( as of yet I keep checking and nothing comes up in maingau ).

I scan the charger then plug in.

On a side note ecars does seem to be more reliable now that their app is in place.

If it's a Model 3 issue then this can be demonstrated when a *different* car successfully charges there right?????.

But yet Model 3s DO seem to manage to charge on Ionitys wider network.

My take - if Ionity in Germany or Norway can deal with a Model 3 - then so should Athlone.

Were it my Model 3 - I'd still take that email to Tesla and ask them to look into it further.

It's a known issue that Model 3 can have communication issues with chargers.

I thought they had improved (Tesla) but who knows :(

Is there a summary page on the 'best' way to manage paying for Ionity charging if a Tesla Model3 Driver? I see that Audi and ID3 now appear to have the same facility with Ionity that Tesla have with supercharging (i.e. all of the billing is automatic) - but I have heard mention of 'maingau' and there appear to be other options if you want to get just a quick topup and not fill the car entirely for EUR8.

Does anyone have a list of the various ways one can manage payment with ionity and indeed with eCars if there are other billing models with them.... I would hope we are soon able to get a single card or app that will allow me to use any charger including ionity and EasyGo.

Electrical infrastructure compromised or unstable on site?

Or charger hardware / firmware issues on site?

It seems to be something on site.

It seems to be a variety of issues, as they do not seem to repeat. Last night on #1 charging just stopped after 5 minutes and did not restart, then on #3 I was not able to start it at all so in the end I moved to free charger which worked without any problems, as I did not want to try every single Ionity one.

Other night charges would be looking to fully functional, but I was getting no authorization for my RFID card.

Ionity on M6 Athlone worked for me today. No idea how long will it last, though.

    Great news.

Did you have to hold the CCS plug during verification/handshake process.
