Need advice on calling in 'sick' to work

I know how stupid this sounds, and apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I want to call in sick for work so I can go out with my friends.
We're all split up between some of us working full time and others in college.
They've all specifically booked time off to go out to this event.
It's been a 'tradition' for all of us to go out since our time back in school.

I'm in college and working part time in a shop.
I've been there 3 months, technically I'm Christmas staff but by all accounts I'm being kept on.

I would have just booked the time off but I know for certain they won't allow it as we can't book off anytime around Christmas - nor can we ask to swap shifts.
So my only option is to call in 'sick'.

I hate doing it, I don't particularly want to put unnecessary stress on my colleagues but I know they have extra staff on around that time, it's just I should be there.

But out of all the days in the year that's the day I want off, I won't see my mates for months after as they go into the second half of final year and off on J1s and that sort of craic, it's routinely been the best night out of the year.

I'm planning on calling early in the morning saying I've been up vomiting all night.
I'll call the following day to say I'm still unwell - I can't drive that early after a night out, and if I say I'll come in for closing they'll just use that as a "aha! I knew you weren't sick!'.

I'm a decent worker, or so I'm told.
I go in on time, I do my work, I go the extra mile to make sure things are done well and I help out..
I've never had a complaint and reason I know I'm being kept on is because everyone else says I'm the only competent new fella they've taken on.
I'm also on of the few who's stayed, they've all quit - none were fired.

I don't know how to go about it.
Is my 'plan' alright? I'm at least giving them time to get a replacement if needs be - I doubt it as they have extra staff on around that time.

Any suggestions?

Here is a suggestion:
Go out with your friends. Don't go too mental (or do, whatever, up to you) and go into work the next day. Yeah you might have a bit of hangover, put your big girl or boy knickers on, slap a smile on your face, drink coke, eat grease and chocolate all day, and get through it.

It is what adults do. Seriously, are you going to call in sick every time you go out with friends???

Summary:
You're not sick. Go to work.

Try take some responsibility for your self
Nothing to stop you meeting your mates but your a big boy now ,no more breast milk get up and go to work the next day.
Just to point out to you there is extra staff hired because it's Christmas a busy time for most business.

Summary:
You're not sick. Go to work.

I can't go to work the next day because I'll have to be on the road early, I'm not chancing an hours drive after a night of pints.
I've no problem with hangovers, I'll probably be clearing out the garage the day after.

I don't go out very often at all, I commute to college so I don't go out when at college and since everyones in college or working, and I'm working weekends there's no going out on weekends either.
I haven't drank in a solid 6 months and I haven't been out with the lads in close to a year.

I'd go in the morning after if I could get a lift but I live an hour away while everyone else is under half that.
Parents will be working and it'd be suspicious getting a lift from my parents for the first time ever the time after I called in sick.

I had plans to wait and go into work later for closing but my parents said that's worse than not going in, they'll know I'm not sick, they'll put me at ****e work because they know and I'll get screwed over down the line for shifts and what not.

It's the driving that's the main issue, I'm not driving at that hour after a night out and I'm not going out and not drinking.

That's exactly my point, I feel bad because it's Christmas and it's busy.
That's why I'm looking to call in early, to give them a chance if they need someone to cover.
I'd happily go asking around now to see who could/would cover me but they won't allow that.
My options are to not go out or to call in sick and go out - I know what I'm choosing.

A big load of excuses ands stupid reasons to go drinking instead of work. That is what I am hearing.

It's your responsibility to get yourself into work. If that means not going out, or going out and not drinking well then so be it.

What about going out and taking it easy so you are ok to drive the next day??

I can offer you no more advice. You sound spoilt, childish and extremely immature.

I'm not a surgeon, no one going to die as a result of me not being there, hard to believe but my role as shop assistant is far from crucial.

My mistake for posting on boards I over estimated ye lot.

You overestimated us for not giving you advise on how to call in sick, when you're not sick?

You just don't get it do you. Adults go to work, they don't call in to work sick when they are not sick. Every single day adults all over Ireland go out for a few pints, don't go too mental, and go to work next day. They don't call in sick the day of the drinking, they don't call in the next day. They don't let their colleagues down, they take responsibility for the commitment they made to show up for work at a busy time when everyone would love time off but can't get it.

I've taken enough responsibility in the last 3 months.
How many times have I covered for others?
Closed when I wasn't supposed to?
Came in on my days of?
Fixed **** that wasn't my issue?

Frankly I deserve 1 night out.

I don't finish till 11,
I'll be travelling close to 2 hours away from where we're meeting.
We're suppose to be meeting at 6.

So I'd get there at around 1 - if I drive straight from work, so I can then be up for 8 the next morning to stack shelves.

I was looking at going in and leaving early but their 'policy' is you get put on less customer orientated roles if you say you're sick.
You go home if you're vomiting or passed out.
So that's a no go sadly.

Why don't you ask around and see if anyone will cover your shift, and then approach management and say "X has offered to work this day for me, is that ok?" If it's already sorted, they're way less likely to say no, and you don't have to take 2 sick days you don't need for the sake of a night out

Maybe it is self entitlement - I work close to 40 hours a week while in college full time.
I'm on minimum wage paying for college, paying my parents rent and running my car.
I can't go out during the week, I live an hours drive from college, plus I'm skint.
I can't go out on weekends - I'm working.

I want to go out for one night, I want to drink for that one night.

Frankly I don't care too deeply about my menial part time shelf stacking job, I'm glad I have it but I've been told they're glad they have me, I clean the floors, I take in deliveries, I empty compactors and deliver.
They won't give me the time off, so frankly I'm enjoying myself with my friends.

Sadly not an option, I was suppose to cover another guys shift coming up to new years and management shut that down, they just won't have any of it.
That was my first point of call.

It's typical that I'm working late the night I want to go out and I'm on early the day after.
If I could change them I would.

I know a guy asked for time off and he was told, and I quote - 'you can f*ck off, not a f*cking notion', that was around 2 weeks ago.

Unless I have a temputure over 38 I don't ring in sick unless I'm sick.
So forgive me if I don't feel sorry for you and your night out with your mates.
Life is hard ,hard for people in different ways.
So instead of drinking you're self stupid with your mates, have a couple of beers and go to work.
You might surprise yourself and realize what it's like to be mature

Everyone has difficult **** to deal with, some are evidently worse than others.

But just because your situation is bad doesn’t make mine good, it’s still ****.

I don’t drink on most nights so I’ll be having 3-4 pints at max.
I’m still not getting into a car the next morning.

Yes it's Xmas, yes you're on the rota because you are needed in but you want to go out and this is the only way its possible.

Woukd I pissed off as a boss? Yup but it happens. Sometimes you suspect ppl are ****ing about and aren't sick but for one or two days you can do nothing to prove it really

You’re probably right which is why I’m better of saying it over the phone rather than at work, looking to leave early..
I’d just be told to go outside and load up some briquettes, and if I need to throw up aim for the bushes.

I was planning on going in and leaving early but they wouldn’t let me if I tried so...

Life is too short OP, call in sick, your young.

But I really don't understand why you need the following morning off to be honest. Just pace yourself or is there a house party afterwards you want to go to?
