    1. The latest version of openVIX specifically for the Tiviar Alpha+ from that site seems to be 53 0 11
    2. yes you could install that SSD. When you have the box up and running you can go into the settings to "initialise" the HDD. This will format it to the linux EXT3 file system. There is also an option to upgrade that to EXT4 which is a slightly more advanced version of the file system. Although most boxes can read FAT32 and NTFS USB drives the operating system prefers the native EXT4 system. However the USB used for the initial flashing should be FAT32 as this is before the operating system proper is installed.
    3. The latest openATV 6.3 for the Tiviar Alpha+ is here

N.B. Images are specific to an exact make and model of box. The two images I have linked to here are raw factory images that will need setting up once installed. There is usually a wizard to help you through this. As a beginner you might be better off using one of the pre-configured images such as the one NewClareMan has kindly supplied. Once you are familiar with it, you might want to customise it or build your own from the above raw images.

Karma at you buddy :) Great stuff :)

Quick question: is it normal to not have an instruction manual included in the box?

You shouldn't need it as it would be for the original software. Once you flash an image it will be obsolete.

Edit: If it's flashed with Enigma it's already obsolete.

You should be able to get info on the hardware online

Possibly you have a bad signal as the info was incomplete, try doing another scan to see if it populates again.

I need to get a new box for my father-in-law to replace his Sky+. Is the Tiviar still available to buy or should I be looking at the Formuler F1 or something else? I have had a Tiviar myself for over a year and am very happy with it but I know it's not made any more.

Still available on the link above. A few posters here have used satworld before without issue too.

Hi, have changed broadband provider, so new ip. I cant now connect to box using laptop on same network. Box is hardwired to modem, laptop is wireless.

    Any advice?

    Thanks.

Your local IP given it by the router will be different. You can see this IP in settings > setup > system > network > adapter settings

Having some tuning problems with my box. Not picking up any channels. I have Digital aerial and a sky dish. Was hoping to get saorview channels from Aerial and Freeview channels from Sky dish. Not able to see any? Its been years since i used the Aerial as we had sky so I may have to check that but I thought I would at least find Freeview channels as the sky box works with that cable? Any ideas?

What satellite are you scanning for the freesat channels which is what you get from the dish..Have you used the aerial to getvsaorview before ?

Be warned if you have skyQ at home this uses a different lnb and wont work with other boxes unless you have a hybrid lnb and different cables.
Sat in use should say 28.2.
Saorview aerial to suit the location your in and choosing the correct transmitter to scan from.

    different cables?

Yes different cables if using a skyq box as they are on their special lnb that no other box will work on,putting on any other box would need changing source from lnb to allow usage of other boxes.

So if you have a hybrid lnb and using skyq you cannot swap a skyq box and expect enigma2 box to work on those feeds.

It's the same f connector and cable, only the lnb technology is different

I've swapped cables from a Q box to a standard combo and it worked perfectly. It was a hybrid LNB. Seemingly they switch output automatically.

Yes well aware but how many think they can just do a straight swap from 1 service to the other without an issue.

Finding out new information all the time on this thread..Thank you all..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,081 ✭✭✭✭Johnboy1951

Simply, it is the LNB that might need to be changed and not the cables.

As Gerry Wicklow pointed out there might be a hybrid LNB in place which would not need to be changed.

Hmm unless you state when your getting your install done you also have freesat boxes to use they wont fit a hybrid as many found out at a latter date.

I'm guessing this is specific to Sky Q? sky dish going to older Sky hd boxes will work fine with freeview channels for Tiviar?

Yes. Direct replacement. (FTA - Free to Air satellite channels. Freeview is the terrestrial system used in UK - comparable to Saorview here)

    Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem physically connecting my Tiviar to my router, is there a wireless solution I can look at? I'd need 5m of ethernet cable so not really an option.
