Yes, but what stops you from unplugging it from the car. If I see car is not charging and connector available I unplug it if no one's around.

Nothing stopping that, but you’d be really lucky to find somewhere to put your car where the charging cable would actually reach it.

    Oh that's right! Tiny detail.

I think so yeah. See attached. Showing as ‘offline’

    Yeah grey.

There's one permanently grey in Galway. It's grey because it's in a completely wrong place on the map vs where it is in reality. I reported it but been a while, no fix, no response.

I suppose the charger status is somehow linked to its GPS location. If it's off it won't show the actual status in the app.

For the old ones even when they were offline you can use them only if you used them before and your card details are in the chargers memory. A new user will not be able to auth. It took me months to find out this. The charger displays "Ready" message and when trying to charge the error message is "Data not OK". Noting about being offline.

downloaded the app now, looked for the 22kw charger near me. says both offline. is this a bug etc? passed by earlier and seen 2 cars charging

    Edit: drove down as was curious. Did these steps;

Opened app on iPhone (logged in etc)
Not intuitive where to go then (for me anyway)
Clicked on menu > favourites and recent
Found the station I was at.
    Brings up the 2 x 22kw chargers
Not sure which one applies to ‘left side’ or ‘right side’ of the physical box.
    Clicked on one
And just says offline. (Even though it says ‘ready for charging’ on the physical box)

In the ideal world and if these were 'online', would I then ‘swipe’ my phone against the physical box to open one of the flaps so that I can plug in.

High level, is the above the rough steps one would do to get the car charging via the new app?

Type 2 will lock to the car unless the car is unlocked.
So you could unplug from the SCP but not from the car. I see no issue with that.

Bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question but does anyone know if the FCP in Lucan Shopping Centre is generally busy or not?

I have to use the eGolf to go to a soccer match in Kimmage, Dublin on Sunday as herself needs her own car (and won't drive mine) and with the cold weather and <150kms range, I'll need to charge it on the way up and back. Really dreading it to be honest.

My route with a Better Route Planner has me leaving Athlone and stopping in Lucan Shopping Centre for 25 mins, charging from 23% to 66% (i might stay till 80% if there's nobody else waiting to use the charger) then heading to the soccer pitch and then stopping at EasyGo in Kinnegad plaza on the way home.

The new ecars app shows a "peak time" graph for each CP that should help you figure out what time might work best. Main problem with the graph is it doesn't separate out weekday and weekend averages, as I think those could be drastically different.

Cpinfo.ie is also pretty useful for figuring this out (wish they'd include a peak time graph on their site)

What's your fallback if the Lucan FCP is busy? Enfield?

There's always Templeville Road, Templeogue. It used to be so busy with local freeloaders, and since charging it's far less busy.

Nice one, albeit wrong direction which might discourage

If I top up at the Kinnegad Plaza on the way up and get to 80%, I'd be leaving Kimmage with 35% left (supposidly according to a better route planner).

In the settings I put in 5 km/kWh at 110 kmh and max speed of 110kph but i fear that might be a bit optimistic with the cold conditions out there and mostly motorway. When I set it back to 3.5 it says I've to charge 4 times to do the 273 kms trip.
From Athlone to Kimmage I need to stop once but I've to stop 3 times on the way home? Can't figure it out. if it's going to take all day to go up and down we may as well forget it.

I'm being very unfair on my car. Monday to Friday and work commute, my car is absolutely perfect. Odd saturday is fun trying to schedule a charge on the road because I coach a soccer team and have to plan my trip to away games a bit better now. Sundays if the trip is tight on time - we bring the ICE.

I love driving it, love owning it but would love a few more kms range!!

Was going to ask you that, are you happy with it

    Whats your daily commute?

I might have similar situation to you, Mon - Fri small commute, but weekends often do long family 150km each way trips and if the young fella is sleeping I try not to stop

A 30km pluggin hybrid like a Golf GTE would suit me alot better than an a 150km eGolf

Get a 530e M-Sport from the UK so - 30km to 45km electric range, 250+bhp, 0-60 in 6 seconds (less easily) & as cheap as chips from the UK :D.

    Or the Dacia.....

I do actually love it, super car which i'm still figuring out the , after 10-11 weeks I still look for an excuse to go out and drive it!

My commute, every second week ( i share driving) is 18kms on 80kph roads and through athlone dropping kids to school, then few more town kms to Motorway which i travel 16kms and off to Tullamore via Clara. Total circa 55kms.
Route home is Tullamore to Clara @ 80kmh (traffic) and then motorway to Athlone and 8kms of 80kph road home. Round trip approximately 110kms

When I don't drive to work its a drop off to school and park nearby, 15kms each way and all 80kph / town roads.

Saturdays i could be anywhere in the midlands with the furthest trip away is Kinnegad so I use the EasyGo there so i charge on the way home. Its a 150kms round trip and I managed it & a few drop off's on one charge in October when it was 10 degrees outside (178ks total) but not in the cold air.

Sundays, I could be anywhere!!! My oldest plays senior soccer so few longer trips for that. We also spend a bit of time in Strandhill & Enniscrone so no chance of even bringing a Tesla on that trip!

    They are, class machines

    I like the 225xe

Same specs but alot cheaper, not a looker, but don't mind that

At 25k all in for a few month old it's excellent value

Mercedes A250e with 15kWh battery looks the job, saw a review on Youtube of a guy getting 80km in his and little 1.3 turbo petrol did 51mpg

You make pretty good use of the eGolf then, it's probably a bit too much km for a Golf GTE, unless it had 15kWh battery like newer phev's coming

I do and we all prefer travelling in it. My kids are 14 & 16 and there's loads of room for the 4 of us. They even commented that there was more room than the A4 Avan it replaced.
Now when the better weather comes back and the golf clubs are brought everywhere, there will be a bit of a squeeze in the boot but i don't mind that, I managed in an ST170 Focus before so will manage in a Golf!!!

Im not sure I'd trust that site at this point in time. I dont think it has been updated since pricing came in(and the API's changed) and I think its producing inaccurate data in the same way that the eCars app was inaccurate until they updated it yesterday.

There was a gap when pricing was introduced, but it has been producing plenty of realistic looking data since about the 4th of December. There's occasional "unknown" blocks, which are presumably when the data from ESB isn't reporting correctly. But otherwise seems normal again. The problem with trying to figure out usage patterns though, is that they've presumably changed quite a bit since pricing came into effect.

I've a trip to Galway this weekend. Was looking at ABRP for my trip. I like to arrive at a charger with ~20% battery, in case I need to divert to the next charger. Given my details, ABRP had me bypassing my destination in order to charge from 19% to 81%, just so I arrived at my destination/waypoint with more than 20%.

Regardless of ABRP, i'll likely always charge to 80% when fast charging. Saves the range anxiety.

Since I got my car, I’ve tried to avoid using the motorway as much as possible, journey time is the same using R roads as well and distance is shorter.
Today I went the full way from Athlone to Kilbeggan on the motorway before turning off for Tullamore. I had cruise control set to a 110kph and heating at 24 degrees. I was getting better consumption figures than going the R roads!

5.1kms/kWh!! 5 degrees out and very little wind.
