    Hi,

Recently got a new TV and looking to get it onto the wall. I have one on the wall in sitting room already fixed to the wooden studs in the wall.

Question is what is the best way to mount the TV? I've read that it can be mounted to the plasterboard wall by using things like:

    Grip IT Fixings

Any anyone mounted to a plasterboard wall with these fittings?

    Thanks

I wouldn't mount any decent sized TV to just the plaster board, I'd definitely have the studs involved.

How big/what's the weight of the TV?

I’d only ever hang a tv that’s mounted to studs. I really don’t trust master board fixings.

Are you replacing the existing one?
Can you find a stud. There’s plenty of different ways to find it.

When you do use coach screws. And it’ll be securely attached

For large TVs use one that attaches across the studs.

Tv is 55” but yeah I was thinking the same that I wouldn’t trust just the plasterboard. Maybe I’ll do both to be sure.

if you can fix to a stud, then do that for peace of mind.

but the plasterboard fixings are pretty strong, you can see people testing them on YouTube and they can hold the weight of multiple concrete blocks etc - should be more than capable of holding a modern lightweight TV (assuming the plasterboard itself is in good condition).

Something I've done in this situation is cut a piece of ply so that it bridges two studs, secure that to the wall, and then you can position the bracket wherever you want.

It can be painted the colour of the wall, and if your really fancy you can route the edges.

For a 55 inch TV you will be able to use quite a large mount. You will be able to hit studs for some of the fixings, and for the rest use plasterboard fixings. This will work perfectly. No need to be screwing large ply sheets to your wall.

Plasterboard fixings can hold some heavy stuff.

Is the mount you are using an arm type mount that holds the TV away from the wall? Or will it be held flush to the wall?

Thanks for all the comments, got it up on Saturday morning. Bought the Sanus VLT16 wall mount which reached across two stud so was able to mount to them then added an extra plasterboard fixing to help secure it. Seems very strong so all good.
