There's a G30 530d advertised on DoneDeal and it states "4 Wheel Steering". Is that a thing on them? First I've heard of it!

It's not just a BMW thing though. Do you think a Mercedes or Audi dealer would be any more generous?

probably not. but it always seems to be bmw coming up and the fantastic value for money v here examples from the uk are also BM. How many times do these people lose a fortune I wonder, before saying not again, lesson learned or do many go back in like lemmings, losing eye watering money on often tractor engined mass produced whatever you want to call it!

That's because they are probably one of the more popular owned brands on here so naturally they are going to be talked about frequently. I have no doubt that an Audi owner would get any better deal from an Audi dealer and same goes for a Mercedes owner. All these cars cost money and they all depreciate steeply in their early years, it's not a new sensation or unique to boards - its a fact of life. Somebody has to buy these cars new so that others can talk about buying them for half nothing 10 years later. Same way some people prefer to buy fairly new cars and not when they are 10 years old or in bangernomics territory.

bazz i agree, but this severe rate of depreciation is a fair bit higher than it would have been say ten or so years ago...

the weak sterling, many in the uk dumping diesels. These cars now with the really low emissions, so vrt etc cheap

Yeah saw that car. Some spec on it. Over 40k worth of extras apparently. Has the Bower wilks sound system worth over 6k I believe! Pity about the colour though and chrome trim (personal taste of course).

I like the colour but agree with you on the chrome.

M Performance decals ruin it more!

If I’ve had my good auld 2007 325 SE for 6 weeks of this year I’ll be surprised but I’d love something a bit more classic. As long as I’m doing car vids I’ve no real desire for anything expensive. I noticed a 1989 535i pop up on the vintage car section this week, something around the 5-7k mark that’s in classic territory and most likely going up in value.

I’m putting €30 into the 325 every two days and the tax is €1000ish so I’m a bit itchy... maybe I’d be mad!

No, wish I’d kept onto that in hindsight but I’d nowhere to store it.

the classic tax is dirt cheap, certain classics may even rise in value. What is the deal with classic insurance?

Capped at a few thousand a year so wouldn’t be an issue but not sure if AA do classic.

That's a serious 530xd there in fairness. I see it's got an electronic towbar on it, out of the millions of pics they have they left a pic of the rear of the car out of it. Wouldn't want it, and agree with the chrome also, don't like the look of that at all.

Would be tempted to take a look at it, wonder how much it would lose over the next year?

Lads, couple of you here (Wallin, Bazz I think) got either black or matt black kidney trim for the front of your 5ers. Care to through up a link to same? It's for an F11 if that matters.

    Cheers! :)

The towbar completely folds away along with the electrics so if you don’t want it you don’t have to see it ever. Amazing amount of extras on that car

The ones on mine are the oem ones from bmw that came with the car, although on my last car, 525d F11, I purchased and fitted the same ones on that. You'll pay about €140 for them but they are good quality.

Plenty of them to be bought online from ebay, Amazon etc but quality can be very hit and miss. Cheap plastic and bits breaking off. I bought the double slat ones from Ebay as they look better, imo, than the single slat, but the quality was brutal and I returned them. Bazz might have a link to a seller as I think he bought his from ebay.

are you not set on the model 3?
I was keeping an eye on the model 3 thread myself but now that I see the real world range being achieved I have completely lost interest. I had no idea that the cold weather, wind and rain as well as exploiting the performance had such a huge detrimental effect to the distances possible.

I think I am!! Just hate waiting on it, I think if I buy another BMW I will always still be wanting to change to the Model 3.

The range seems to be hugely degrade with the cold weather alright but at same time I should have enough to get from Dublin to any end of the country, charge up overnight and return. We have an ICE as well so if we need to do a trip up and down the same day then we always have that as a backup.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I hate some of this new tech for the sake of it, or for the first week of ownership, look what my car can do and you'll never use it again.

More and more ambient lights in interiors that are not ambient at all. The E46 was the first car I was in where I noticed ambient lights and it took me a sec to figure out the light source the way they recessed the bulbs, you know, making them ambient. These new strips that change colour do nothing for me. That car has lights in the tweet housing ffs, to show off your fancy 6k sound system. Not for me at all.

I'm with you on that, I'd be happy with them as a freebie on a second hand car but I would never spec half of it. Nice engine, heated leather sports seats, sports suspension & phone compatibility & I'm pretty much sorted.

Edit: I did think that tweeter light thing looked fairly snazzy though.

I'm in the think I am boat as well, I've the deposit down on a performance model 3, have a mk7.5 GTi as an inbetween car coming from years of bmw's the last two being 530's. Drove a golf R recently and it had me grinning ear to ear. Not sure the model 3 will have the same effect.
Don't know what to do...the golf has set a high enough bar from a fun, practicality, easy to park and cheap to run point of view.

I've a feeling the Germans will throw it up Tesla over the next 12mts. There's lots of new cars on the way that won't come with range anxiety.

I don’t see any of the Germans coming up with anything for €65k with the performance and range of the Model 3 Performance though. I would like to see what the new 4 series electric car will be like but just don’t see it being as good of value for money as the Model 3 Performance. Also I’ve not seen anything on the way as quick of the line as the Model 3, it is beating 0-60 in less than 3s now with the latest upgrade.

I reckon the MK8 Golf R will give it a good run for it's money, 400bhp+ and hybrid boost, it certainly won't be slow and will get you to McDonald's and back without a panic attack. Some of the Tesla guys are seeing shocking milage in this not so bad weather considering the price of the car and claimed official milage.
It's the 50k bik expemption that's attracting me, wouldn't be even considering it only for that. It's a hell of a lot of money though, would you be better off wait 2 or 3 years and let someone else take the big hit.

Does that 530d xdrive say €117,000 new? 42k of extras? They just said yes to everything, some of it sounds like a complete waste of money

Who the hell pays that and sells 2 years later, thats crazy behaviour.

Nicely specced though but its lost 70k, which incidentally is €2 for every mile it has travelled

Yes there is, i'll give you an example of a relative of mine, bare in mind he is based abroad for about half the year so doesn't get to drive them much.

    In 2017 (171)
New 520d SE (nicely specced as MSPort wasn't available) for himself and new X5 for the wife

    2018
New 520d MSport with a heap of spec for himself

    2019
New Porsche Panamera EHybrid for himself and the new model X5 for the wife.

A fair few quid dropped in depreciation there I imagine!

That is a serious machine and spec. Low-key, all-weather high performance cruiser with all the bells and whistles.

I actually like the colour and chrome trim, it's the M-Performance skirts I'm not a fan of, they clash with the rest of the trim imo.

Wonder if it was a press or demo car, would a private buyer really add all that spec?

It looks like the version of m sport you get before m sport is available, so an aero pack.

if you got the chrome wrapped in matt black itll look the same as an msport for all intents and purposes.
