Smalling is apparently doing well at Roma, this should not take away from how poor he was at times at Utd. His positioning was all over the place and distribution was shocking at times. I'm pleased he's doing well at Roma but Utd should be looking at a huge upgrade on him. Just because he's less awful than Jones doesn't mean he's the answer.

I'm really surprised at some of the comments here about Smalling. Guys whinging that the club were just crazy to loan him out.

I mean Jesus the guy is 30. He had nearly a decade at United to prove himself as a top class centre half.
Credit where its due he had one pretty good season under LVG, think it was 2014/2015. But that's not nearly enough.

Since then he reverted to type for us.
Bad positioning. And poor concentration, switches off at key moments in games. And he doesn't have the keen sense of danger that all top CBs need.

Maybe Maguire hasn't reached the levels expected of him yet. But that shouldn't change the fact that Smalling has repeatedly proven not good enough.

Has been near constant rumours of United signing players for years

Smalling is earning what is rumored 70 or 80k a week which would make him Roma's third highest earner has he been that good for them?

He's been one of their best players so far this season. MOTM, goal and assist at the weekend.

Getting Into some really decent positions but the final ball again is non existent. The best chance we have and we just wait too long for no apparent reason to pull the trigger.. frustrating.

Jesus... what a strike... I've been criticising Lingard but that was a hit..

    Delighted for Lingard.

Finally Lingard scores, and a good goal too.

You can tell we're coming into December if Jesse's scoring. :pac:

    Great finish tho.

Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey aren't the only 2 who come out of hiding for December it seems :pac:

    Astana are in winter mode

good start by the young lads though, passing the ball around well

    Laird looks like a prospect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,251 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Starting to look a bit ominous. Astana having a lot of purposeful possession, being afforded a lot of time on the ball.. United not picking the final pass still.

No forward with the instinct to make a run, static, static, static....

Had to give the pass there, it’s 2-0 if he does.

    Laird looks like a prospect.

Can't say I follow the U23s all that closely but pretty sure I read that Laird was so good at RB which is why Brandon Williams ended up playing LB.

Lingard should be playing midfield for the first team. His passing and movement is so much better than anything else there. That's depressing but sure work with what you have. Pereira back on Sunday though...

    Quote from Sky Sports

"What an encouraging and refreshing half of football that was from Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard - the older statesman in the team - may have opened the scoring, but forget about age and experience, this group of youngsters have character and personality in abundance.

Astana have been limited to glimpses of the United goal but the visitors have had a measure of control throughout."

ive not watched match as at work but thats what you want to hear!!!!

We should really be looking to send a few of these lads out on loan

Levitt and Garner have impressed me far more than Fred and Andreas as midfield two.

Gomes and Chong poor out wide.

I heard somewhere it's also the reason O' Connor was sold(In that he wouldn't get much game time at centre back and in his secondary positions the 2 lads were considered better)

Fûck, Astana really should have equalized there..

    Wtf, Chong you *%#€@##

We have NOTHING zip front, an open goal three yards out,

    1-1 now
