noses are well out of joint in one north mayo club over promises made about ground redevelopment and the sudden lack of league games they were promised.

All league games should be held in Castlebar by rights. Gone are the days when there's just a couple of thousand attending. Not to mention the money that was thrown into the stand, we might as well make some use of it.

    National football league games?

Where else were they to be played?

Ballina Stephenites' ground. As was said however, it doesn't have capacity for the crowds of the last few years.

Back in the day, there were league games played in Charlestown and Ballinrobe as well.

That's not what the were told though before they spent money doing it up.

Yeah, can see how a match against Dublin, Kerry or Galway should be in Castlebar. But how big a crowd would a match against the likes of Cavan, Meath, Cork etc etc draw?

At the moment , a minimum of 7k , but could bring 10k depending on the day

Yeah. That's still a decent enough crowd. I suppose it's not just about the size or state of the ground either. Good access for the supporters in the depths of winter is just as important. McHale Park is brilliant, having the industrial estate & all that parking just next door.

At the moment mayo and Waterford would draw a big crowd

Lets be honest it's fashionable at the moment to be seen at mayo games. When push comes to shove though the club latter stages still get modest attendances

It's still a few years away from crowds dwindling back to pre 2010s levels, so Ballina etc aren't really feasible yet

I don't think Ballina will ever be feasible again. Attendances at league games have got much bigger across the board in the last 10 years, not just in Mayo. It's a shame because the pitch is far better than the one in MacHale Park.

Fr O'Neills from Cork it is for Tooreen in semi

Don't know a whole lot about them but the Cork intermediate hurling champions tend to be very strong

Match will be played weekend of 4th January

Is there any chance of doubling up the game with Kilmaine's semi-final? It's more than likely against Na Gaeil of Kerry so Ennis or Limerick would suit. Might entice a few neutrals to go.

Would make a lot of sense!

If memory serves, Crossmolina also hosted league games back in the day.

    Are you serious?
Mayo home league games these days bring about 10 -15k depending on how many opposition supporters make the trip aswell.

What do you mean Am I serious?

    I merely asked a question.

Even with a passing interst in GAA you would be aware that Mayo get huge crowds.Ballina or any another ground in Mayo outside of MacHale Park can only cater for a couple of thousand.

If you asked the question in earnest then apologies to you.

I got a gawk at the list of nominations for the county board.

As expected it's a shoot out between Seamus Tuohy and Liam Moffatt for the chairmanship.

Dermot Butler is the sole nomination for secretary.

A lady from Charlestown Valerie Murphy is the sole nomination for treasurer.

Her background in the accountancy profession should be a great positive for this most challenging of positions.

Con Moynihan of Ballaghderreen is the sole nomination for the vice chairmanship after Paul Cunnane's withdrawal.

Now a straight fight between the incumbent PRO and Michael Gallagher after a change of heart re the latter's eligibility to run for the position.

Sean Feeney will be the incoming president.

Paddy McNicholas is the nominated central council delegate.

Michael Diskin of the Mitchels is line for a position.

Forgotten all the other names I managed to view.

As usual the Mayo News has all the relevant information.

Hotel already booked in Westport for 3 weeks after. Gonna climb The Reek on the Sunday morning.

(Oh ok, at least admire the view while scarfing lemon drizzle cake in The Creel.)

What's the story with David Clark, is he still on the panel?

No indication that he's left the panel.

Curious as to the extent of a cull James Horan will carry out.

Michael Schlingermann the third choice goalkeeper has left the panel.

Devil a chance you guys could divert a bit of your hard earned cash away from covey land to the impoverished environs of Castlebar?

You could set up camp with the O Sheas in Breaffy.:)

    TBH I can't blame you.

Always glad to extend an invitation to beautiful Mayo.

Isn't he going back to Moy Villa for some soccer? Robbie going back to Celtic as well I think. You'd have to assume they both have the blessing of Horan.

    Yip same was reported.

That would have be my assumption.

I really hope Clarke is staying on
and I really really really hope Horan is planning on blooding at least one younger keeper during FBD as his back up.

Haven't heard any rumours about anyone walking away. At this stage, you'd imagine if anyone was going to go, they'd have said so?
