Trivial things that annoy you about your car?

Is there anything very small or non-consequential about your car that annoys you?

I'm talking about the kind of thing that most people probably wouldn't even notice. It doesn't affect how your car functions, drives or looks to any great extent but every time you notice it or see it - you think why is it like that!?

For me its the instrument cluster in my 2012 Audi A5. Because it is easier to read, I usually have my speed displayed on the LCD screen between the Rev and Speed counters. The thing is, the number font used on the binnacles and the LCD are different. It's not massively different or in comic sans or anything but it really bugs me. It makes absolutely no difference to the car and maybe I'm just developing OCD in my old age!

So anyone else out there have a similarly minor thing about their otherwise loved car that gets on there nerves? Please share :D

Windscreen washer reservoir in my A4 is almost impossible to fill without spilling fluid and it has to be done very slowly. Wasn't a problem in any previous car I've had.

    Peugeot Partner van, 171

Can’t turn on radio unless full ignition is on or Van is started :(

i have a new 2019 Vw Touareg . It has lane keep assist which is way overzealous and when you disable via the driver assistance button on the steering wheel or entertainment system it defaults to turning back on the next time you start the car. So annoying.

ha! I have exact same issue with the A5. The mesh prevents a funnel being used too.

Door pockets are hard plastic, can't put anything in there as it just makes plasticy rubbing sound all the time.

Golf R turning circle is dreadful, you can't even do some spaces in a 3 point turn. Makes you look like Austin powers.

My Duster wiper settings are really annoying. There is either "intermittent" or "on". So if the rain is of a certain degree, intermittent isint enough and on is too much. Last cars always had a setting for changing the duration of the intermittent.

You know you can just pull that mesh out for filling?

Hyundai i10 has exactly the same. I find I wind up on manual single swipe. The other annoyance on the i10 is that the back windscreen wiper is continuous, and it winds up getting really noisy. Every other car I've driven had the back wiper on an intermittent setting.

First World issue. My last car had a coffee cup holder to the right of the steering wheel which I found very handy. My current Avensis doesn't. As mentioned above re door pockets - worse than useless.

The infotainment system defaults to Smartlink rather that Android Auto. Grrr!

Been wracking my brains, bloody Superb just does so much well! Creaky front suspension would be it for me, seems to plague these cars.

I'd kill for a back wiper!!! I got my first saloon car this year (i40) after previously only having estates and hatchbacks all of which had back wipers. It's so annoying when there is a layer of water on it and all you want to do is give it a quick wipe.

Why don't saloon cars have back wipers?

No parking ticket holder, or "follow me home" lights in my E-class, my Volvo had both.

You could pull the stalk for full beams on the Volvo and all lights, including full beams would stay on for 30-90 seconds after getting out of the car. The only way I can do it on the E-Class is to set the lights to "Auto" which then turns the sidelights on if the car is unlocked and it's dark but, has the side effect of disabling the dipped beams in the daytime.

Get those black felt adhesive sheets in Lidl or Dealz (used for furniture on wooden floors), stick them to both sides of the pocket, you will never see them and they kill all that rattling around.

    Especially in cold weather.

Most safety features which can be switched off in any brand are designed to reset when the vehicle is restarted.

Rear windows don't get mucky on a saloon and those very few that have rear wipers just don't look right.

Skoda superb, no back wiper, very annoying when driving in town, the rear screen clears perfectly on the open road.

    Heater in the Mazda 6.
If it's on the windscreen, it's also on your feet and can't be turned off unless the aircon is on.
Constant sweaty feet as a result

my skoda octavia used to trigger the rear wiper when you put it in reverse, the kia ceed doesnt and being an estate it needs wiping more.

apart from that cant think of anything

Drinking an espresso while driving just sounds wrong, so I'm not surprised.

    I've an older model Mondeo.

When you open the boot during or after wet weather, ie almost daily.... it soaks everything with a strong and sustained stream of water in the most irritating manner.

The other day I had a laptop bag on my driveway adjacent to the back bumper, it actually soaked the bag first when slightly opened and then the contents of the boot when opened fully.

Its just so stupidly, needlessly painful to endure.

PS its a hatch with a much appreciated rear wiper - I absolutely hate saloon cars with no way of clearing the back window!!!!

Great little car but I absolutely hate the way the heater and fan controls are integrated with the radio controls. The number pad on the radio controls both the radio and the functions of the heater/fan depending on whether you have pressed the the radio or heater/fan control knobs most recently.

Firstly, it is too complex for its purpose, it is confusing to use. More importantly it is dangerous because you have to look at the controls while driving to figure out how to get the air/radio right. It is not in any way intuitive.
Old style, 3 knobs heater controls was far better as you could simply feel the knobs while you keep your eyes on the road. The dual purpose controls are distracting and for that reason are dangerous.

I cannot figure out what might have been going through the engineer's and designers heads when they came up with this needlessly confusing and complicated system. It does not add any value or functionality beyond the usual set up of separate controls.

Aside from that, it is a great reliable little car and I intend on driving it, neglectfully and abusively, into its rusty grave.

If I let anybody into the back of my car via the drivers seat, when the seat is pushed back, it doesn't go back to the position it was in previously

uggh i had a citroen C1 as a rental and you had to use the slider controls on the touch screen to change the heater and fan controls and it was a couple of screen clicks to get there. very difficult to use

My new Kodiaq is perfect except I hate the way Skoda have the heated mirror control on the same knob as the mirror adjustment. My first Skoda so first time I've experienced this and it seems bizarre. Also no light or anything to say that the heating is on.

One other thing I hate on this car and It was a feature on a previous X5 and probably lots of modern cars is that I can't control when the headlamp washers decide to spray the lights. Very annoying when you have washed the car and then this film of water squirts out...

    3rd world stuff I know

I’d love to replace my Saab 93 in the future, but I’ll never have a new one.
