Guaranteed the op is a civil servant. Get out of there. It takes a lot to suspend a civil servant. Not the job for you.

If she was a civil servant they would suspend the boss with pay for questioning an employees performance.

Staff would be threatening strike because somebody questioned their performance and they weren’t trained to answer.

Staff would get a payrise once they were trained to answer.

OP is not searching for an excuse to leave the company with money, at all. Where are you getting that from?

focus on the minor issue, why don't you. :)

OP is suspended with pay- depending on the outcome of the disciplinary hearing, she could leave with pay forgone- leaving OP out of pocket. :)

It's not the central issue here, as you know, but hey, go for an argument why don't you.

Fair enough. There is definitely more to this than meets the eye.

Does it say on thread OP is a Woman?

I’m not sure it’s important what she identifies as but yes I shared a urinal with her outside of stade de France during a time of civil unrest. Most definitely not male. Trying to sit down gave the game away.

Why are you asking? Do you think she should decide whether or not to go to the meeting based on her gender?

Tell me, I'm curious- why do you respect the OP?

They have admitted they have made a complete and utter idiot out of their employer by crashing their customer service stats, and put additional pressure on other staff to pick up the pieces- they have also inferred that essentially, they're lazy, not sick, not mentally impaired in some way, not depressed, just lazy or at the very least, they've "grown apart from the company".

And they're now searching for "an excuse" so that they can leave the company, with money, and their integrity intact and the chance to get employment elsewhere, potentially doing the same thing- i'm truly curious as to why you are supporting this poster.

    First paragraph is correct.

Dunno where you got the last bit out of, where on earth did I say I'm searching for an excuse to stay for money?

I want to not return, I don't even want to go back for the outcome meeting, hence the whole point of this thread.

I was looking for advice to see if people would bother going back for the meeting or just continuing to look for new jobs.

I dont want to go back at all, so not sure where ya gathered I was searching for an excuse to give, so I could stay.

And in regards to doing the same thing, no, I've never worked in a call centre or done anything similar in the workplace like this before and don't intend to again.

And yes, I'm a woman, mentioned this earlier I think.

FFS, the OP is 21. Everyone makes mistakes.

Hopefully OP will learn from there mistakes and what's done is done

    First paragraph is correct.

    .

Great- so thanks for confirming that you're lazy. You disputed that earlier with me but now you appear to agree.

You were provided with advice on why you should go back to that meeting, and you essentially ignored all the good advice that you were provided with on that issue, and instead decided to side with those who were providing you with advice which would not give you good guidance in future employment.

Take whatever advice you want at this stage but for future employment, enough people on this thread have advised you to attend the meeting and speak honestly.

OP, go to the meeting, definitely. Whether you want to stay or not.

I've worked in a call centre and I know how draining and crap it can be. Having said that, I've been on the dole now since last December and if I was offered that call centre job again I'd grab it with both hands. At that time in my life I just hadn't worked in an environment where every action, every second, every statement was monitored, and that was just the company, not to mention the rude customers.

I don't know what geographic location you are in, but if it isn't Dublin or somewhere jobs are plentiful, I would try and save my job, at least for a while. Despite the recovery blather it can be hard to get work, and losing it before christmas means unless you get seasonal work you'll be jobseeking in January. Which is just a non runner really. If it's not a case of you just can't handle the job mental health wise, try and save it.

If you want to keep the job, then engage with them, take responsibility, endeavour to stop that behaviour, explain why you did it (burnout, dealing with a personal issue, whatever) but make clear you have put that behind you and want to recommit to the job and ask for another chance. As has been stated, they have trained you, and they know you. They may forgive you with a written warning.

If you are already 'gone' in your head, then your attitude of just not bothering doesn't make the sense you think it does. In this case, you actually have nothing to lose. Not showing up will just confirm a lack of responsibility, maturity and accountability. Either way, facing the music will stand to you better in the long term.

The thought of these things, and the waiting, having it hanging over you, is always WAY worse than the actual event (ask anyone who has ever had to go to court for anything, usually with a minimum of 3 adjournments, dragging it out for a year or more).

Running from it is the wrong course of action, but I understand it. Trust me, just get dressed and turn up. Even if you think there is no point, the next time you need to turn up for something similar, you will be better equipped mentally for having had this experience under your belt. Your desire to not go isn't because you think it's a lost cause, it's because you're, in your own words 'cowardly' or afraid. But there's no need. It's not a criminal court.

Don't pass any heed about people saying you are better to quit than be fired. People in Ireland have this weird notion about that. It's not a death knell to be fired, and quitting without another job lined up will raise the same amount of eyebrows anyway. Dont worry about that or references. Jusr focus on doing the responsible adult thing now, don't compound one bad thing with another when you can take a step to avoid a total flameout. Even if you do get let go, you will feel better for trying. And you might be surprised how favorably they may look upon you for trying to make it right. People love a comeback story.

    Again I didn’t. I know she is a 21 year old girl.

You assumed I was an incel because I didn’t agree with you didn’t ye.

Still don't know why you made up the second paragraph, but anyhow, why are you so against the fact that I've decided to go with not going to the meeting and just leaving? Just because I didn't agree with that opinion?

It doesn't affect you which decision I make, so there's no need to be so persistent in calling me lazy or saying I'm ignoring others

you started the discussion, not me.

you started it in the Work and Jobs forum, which usually has a good record of providing good advice, and OP's looking for genuine advice.

You were provided with the advice of attending the meeting- you ignored that advice but then turned on the people, like me, who provided you with that advice, by name calling- "snotty" or similar, is one word I seem to remember.

Maybe next time, just thank the post and move on, and less of the name calling.

    It's not me making assumptions.

where does it say she is a woman?

A 21 year old is not "the girl" or "she".

Referring to a 21 year old woman in the workplace as "the girl" or she (who"s she, the cats mother?)would not bode well.

    Ask Johnny.

It’s not her first post here. I know she is a 21 year old girl. I know you are a woman in your 40s or 50s, likes a glass of wine, a row, lives in Kildare I think, work in an office, travel
Involved, used to carry a bit of weight and lost it for a time. I read boards threads like other people read the news, I know a lot of posters here.

No idea what you look like, I know Wibbs is skinny, srameen is a bit hefty but wouldn’t admit it, graces 7 might be a little old woman and Makikomi does karate or something, that’s off the top of my head. It’s probably a bit off topic though for the poor girl and her job and all. Threads not about you ye know.

My point was at 21, you are a woman in work (not a girl) and should be respected as that.

    Good luck OP.

Call centres are tough, yòu have just discovered they are not for you.

If we're getting all our P's and Q's in a row, you should at least have the decency to ask them what gender they are and what pronouns they wish to be addressed by....

This is an online forum, I really don't think OP cares if you call them it she he we they her I he him or yoke - They were looking for a bit of advice on a work related issue.

At the age of 21, did any of you ever do something stupid? :)

There are plentyohtools in this thread.

Referring to someone as "the girl" or 'she" is not acceptable in a work context. Context is everything and the context within that post is clear.

If a 21 year old man had posted, he would not be labelled "the boy", nor should he be.
