All four ionity chargers are down in Gorey.
Rang the helpline but they couldn't do anything.

Using the esb one now. Just as well it's vacant as need enough to get back to Dublin

I just checked my app and it’s says I’m still charging! 501minutes charging. Any idea what to do? I stopped my charge by pressing the buttons on the screen like it tells you to do.

Don’t worry about it. Will be fixed and you won’t be charged

I tried using my manigau card at the Ionity near Athlone today and it wouldn’t work. Had to connect through the app and it took two attempts to charge. I see there’s 2 x €8 transactions on my bank account as well.
    Are they pending transactions?

I had 8 (!!) pending transactions after all the failed attempts. Only 1 has converted to actual charge. The woman at the helpdesk said if there wasnt a charge started in 2 minutes it was automatically not charged.

No full transactions, I have my PayPal account linked to my ionity account and it’s showing on my bank account.

Happens all the time, the Charging station isn't terminating the session correctly. They'll perform a reconciliation at the end of the month or the end of next month and then the correct amount of kwh and time will be billed.

Maingau still shows an active session.

FYI it takes up to 2 months before you are actually billed for the charging session

E.G. I just got billed for 2 charging sessions in September yesterday, wasn't maingau either was plugsurfing.

I had a few sessions running in the Maingau app that ran up to 80 euros or something ridiculous, eventually it fell off and the correct amount was shown.

I did 6 transactions with my bank card and 2 with PayPal. Second PayPal one worked (after calling ionity) and that transaction has gone through and the other ones are still pending and I assume will be cancelled.

I've no issue with that, it's the same as doing multiple pre auths at an unmanned petrol station

The Ionity chargers at Circle K Exit 7 on the M1 near Stamullen/Gormanston look like they're nearly ready, i passed there today.

Currently sitting at the ionity chargers in Wicklow in a model 3, I got about 70kw/h to start and went steadily downhill from there. Not massively impressed.

Good god reading all the issues with charging is really making it obvious no matter what ev you have the infrastructure is simply just terrible and not ready.

What SOC did you arrive with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,368 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

I think it was around 25-30%, it was displaying range in km when I arrived so didn't get an exact reading. To charge to 90% from there took around 35 minutes, maybe sightly over that.

Interesting. Cold battery maybe, SR+ should be flat @ 100kW until almost 50% and then steadily down to ~30kW @ 80%.

Not really worth fast charging past 70% unless it saves another stop before home.

I'm relying on the public charging network for now so was happy to charge up to 90%, it's a flat €8 fee either way.

Is the SR+ not rated to charge at speeds of up to 170 now? Or is that only at Tesla chargers?

Ah, good point. Assume you are on recent software?

    Must be cold battery then.

Meh. Most EV owners charge at home and rarely use the public charging network. As poor as it is, at least now with the charging for charging you can actually get a fast charge when you need one. I'm happy to go beyond the range of my car again, something I stopped doing almost 2 years ago.

Obviously we need a lot more fast chargers with multiple bays over the next few years

If the government wants to hit its ev targets it needs to be better than Meh don’t you think.

Your slow speed is all car related I would guess. How long had you been driving before arriving?

I'd suggest he may need a software update to get the newer speed. The SR+ bump was only in a recent update and the car may not have gotten it.
Takes 2 weeks after delivery for the car to update. I was talking to a new M3P owner who had'nt even gotten v10 yet and I'm on v10.1

Fun fact: the government's 2030 target is 1m electric vehicles on the road. If the government just bought 1m Tesla Model 3 SR+ at US retail price plus the 10% EU import duty, and handed them out in a lottery, it would cost €39.4bn.

The cost of bailing out the banks was €41.7bn.

    One. Million. Teslas.

Good plan. Quick math ... somewhere around 2,000 M3 units per week between now and 2029 and hey presto the government plan would be achieved. Simples

Having multiple bays is vitally important.

If you have 10 bays then having one down is less of an issue because EVs can continue using the nine working chargers.

A big issue imo and it seems to be a thing with the Irish version of Ionity is having the back up and support to put chargers back up and running quickly.

Need access to charger manufacturers support so that manufacturers can get to the bottom of any common not caused by users faults.

Already some of the new 22 kw ESB chargers have reports of issues. Need proper support to get on top of that.

Need engineers available and deployed to site promptly to get on top of issues.

For me these issues can be overcome.

An example of this is that the Tesla Model 3 CCS compatibility issues have shown signs of improvements.

Still not fixed totally yet - still issues in Scotland at least

The car is running 2019.36.2.1, I updated it as soon as I picked up the car.

    Really ?
Most EV Owners in Belgium/France and Germany charge on Public Chargers or at Work.

Well this is boards.ie, I was referring to EV owners based in Ireland. I'd say 80-90% of them charge almost exclusively at home.

But yeah I agree with you it's a completely different story on the continent, where people generally also do far longer distance driving regularly, i.e. to go on holidays.

By the way folks, anyone has an idea at what other sites will Ionity build? Is that it? 5 sites (I don't count the double site at Kill) covering only 25-30% of the area.
Looks like something is missing on the M7? And maybe M8 and M9?
    Also nothing west of 7°50'W...

I thought the original plan was for 9 sites. I assume Kill counts as 2 in their eyes so that leaves 3 more if I'm not mistaken.

    Yes they had said 9.
Would assume something on the M9, maybe another further west on the M7, and perhaps something northwest but no one would use it, there's not really a main trunk road going up there.

Where did they say 9? I know unkel said it in his opening post, but I couldn't see it mentioned in the link attached.
