I wonder if this will directly tie-in to the future upgraded N81 from Tallaght to Hollywood Cross?

(Whenever the hell that may be...)

A long way off I’d think- for the moment they seen to be trying to pick off the very worst bits. Worst section coupled with high ADDT is the Tallaght to Brittas section- very busy, winding, dark, narrow, no hard shoulders or passing opportunities but would need a complete rebuild

This is the problem. The 5 realignments are south of Hollywood Cross, which is great for the route south of there, but these realignments aren't being done north of there because the traffic counts merit something more. The problem being that the 'something more' is frozen and unlikely to move for several years. The net result being that the busiest part of the N81 (which is pretty bad in places as you say) isn't dealt with while some of the quieter parts are.

Similar situations happening on other roads countrywide where only minor realignments get progressed while the bigger, much needed schemes remain in limbo.

Much easier fund the little realignments here and there- the Tallaght to Blessington section requires a completely new DC road costing hundreds of millions vs a few million at a time!

Roscommon County Council have published route options for a 5.4km realignment on the N61: Tulsk to Clashaganny. Absolutely septic stretch of road

Tender out for specialist consultancy services also:

Would anyone know if there is any plan to do anything with the routes between Headford and Ballinrobe. I think the N84 is considered the primary route & the R334 is practically a back road but is quite often a better road to travel on despite the bumpy surface.

While the N17 is probably the official route between Galway & Mayo, the N84 is the more direct quicker route but parts of this are shocking, Shrule, Kilmaine etc..

There was a plan for a Ballinrobe relief road for the N84, but this has dropped off the radar, possibly dropped by Darth Varadkar when he was in charge of Transport & Tourism.

I used to drive that road twice a week from Castlebar to Galway during rush hour; what an absolute hell-hole at times!

The next N84 upgrade is quite likely to be from Galway to Luimnagh, but other than that, I can't see any upgrades any time soon.

    Sadly.

Ya, even if the Curragh line could be widened with a hard shoulder, it would be a help. Such a bottleneck to get out of Galway, so dangerous for a straight stretch of road with nowhere to pull in, breakdowns etc..

That's the name I was looking for; the Curragh Line.

That is, as far asxI understand, the next and project likeky to get the go ahead; goodness knows when, though.

It would be good if it was done before the Galway Outer Ring Road, but then, that's another story altogether...

I see realignment of R148 directly outside Intel Leixlip is advancing quickly...I hear it may be open within a month or two. Added to OSM: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/53.3741/-6.5254

I heard some references to it being a temporary realignment to support construction works over the next year or two, but the realignment is in the Leixlip LAP so wouldn't surprise me if it remains longer term.

The part 8 says temporary but nobody expects it to be

Happy days; does this include the section that will replace the narrow bridge just north of Killydoon?

according to this, Section B is "Ballytrust to Grousehall" so it does seem that this bridge will be replaced and the Metropolis of Killydoon bypassed

Happy days; that is one of the worst sections of National Road in the country.

From (hazy) memory, that means the N51 from Navan to Slane will be of acceptable standard, finally.

Now, if they could do Drogheda to Slane...

The part east of the scheme to Slane is very good. The part west to Navan is very narrow but straight, so at least you have good sighlines.

Does anyone have any info on this scheme in Letterkenny? It's on the N14 so presumably TII are managing it

    http://www.highlandradio.com/2019/11/11/could-four-lanes-scheme-result-in-two-years-of-gridlock-for-letterkenny/

Traffic has already been hell this year with the multiple and never ending Irish Water schemes around the town, having major roadworks on the main artery into the town (with no alternative route and AADT of over 30k) is going to cause chaos

What’s the N60 scheme at Oran about between Castlerea and Roscommon? Lovely new stretch of road open (a standard template all National secondaries should be at). Looks part of it not finished yet, will it completely bypass the existing road around a graveyard (I think)?

    N60 Oran - 3.4km of Type 1 SC

Wills Bros are doing it so no surprises that it’s ahead of schedule. Only started earlier this year

    To answer my own question..
This scheme which is being developed by Donegal County Council in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland consists of approximately 1.4Km and will include:

The provision of a centre median over the schemes length with the inclusion of right turning lanes for the L11142 Bonagee Road and the L1094-1 Cullion Road.

The provision of footpaths and cycle ways.

The construction of a walkway/boardwalk for approx 100m adjacent to the River Swilly.

The provision of signalised pedestrian crossings.

Junction improvement works, pavement, signage and lining and other ancillary works.

Plenty more of this to look forward to over the next couple of years then...

Some preliminary works have begun on the N73 at Annakisha, I had hoped they were doing the stretch further north which is really dangerous and narrow.

Agreed, although I think they both merit doing the Waterdyke section is like something you’d expect on a local road, let alone a road that takes so many HGVs.

Some developments of interest in Mayo:

N17: The dangerous Lisduff crossroads on the N17 where several people have been killed is to be rebuilt into a grade separated junction. This means 2 GSJs within 1km on the N17 at Claremorris, a bit unnecessary for a small town IMO. Construction to start in 2021 but yet to go to ABP so that might be optimistic. Drawings here: https://www.mayo.ie/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Appendix-A-Part-8-Drawings.pdf

N26: Design work to start on Ballina ring road, linking N26 to N59 Crossmolina road. Easy job (no bridge over Moy), but no construction planned before 2023. Cloongullane bridge defo starting next year.

N60: Tiny Lagnamuck scheme nearly complete. Heathlawn (4km online) to tender sometime next year. Manulla (4km type 1 offline) to go to ABP in Q1 2020. Construction expected 2022 on the latter.

Interesting new project that has appeared is R332 Kilmaine to Galway county boundary. Mayo county council have budgeted 4m euro capex for this in 2022, so it must be a realignment. I haven't seen any drawings yet. The R332 has seen a huge increase in traffic since the M17 opened and Galway county council are progressing an upgrade on their section too.

I note with interest that the bridge on the N17 at Lisduff is specced with a "clearance envelope for future proposed N17 Type 2 dual carraigeway".
    Fantastic to see that.
