I suspect cutting the ties may give a payment free charge when compared to ionity.

and maybe a charge of criminal damage too!

    For a cable tie?
Better bring a replacement for when I'm done so :P

Always carry cable ties. You never know when you have to cable tie something to a car parked by an asshole.😄

I see the CCS connector on the free Circle K charger at Athlone is still marked as out of service with some cable ties preventing it from being removed from the charger. The Chademo charger is working fine.

I assume that it's not faulty, it's just blocked off to force CCS cars to use the Ionity chargers, at the request of Ionity.
They'd probably do the same at Cashel except the free CCS charger is an ESB one, not a Circle K one.

Be careful :) I saw this exact scenario, was a freebie 50kw Efefec charger on the same site as a 175KW paid charger here near Dusseldorf.

It had a sign on it saying CCS DEFEKT and a tie wrap on it.

People did exactly that, they cut the cable tie, plugged it in, gave an error, it wouldn't disengage from the car and many times there were people stuck as they didn't know how to do a manual release on their CCS.

The manual release on the i3 is pretty flimsy, same for the E-Tron, I wouldn't fancy having to use it a lot.

    Hi,

Does anyone know how to figure out the opening date of the 3 stations "Now Building", in particular CityNorth on the M1. Seems they've should be open very soon as they've been building for a while now.

I've hit Ionity up on the Twitter as the young kids say these days so will post back here if I get a reply.

    Cheers!

Cashel took 127 according to Ionity.
Athlone is still showing as being built, with the number of days at 143.
Considering CityNorth is at 108 building days, i'd hazard a guess at maybe a month away? That said, there's nothing like eyes on the ground to give an indication of when it'll be ready.

I'm guessing the service station is built and operational? At least that won't slow it down.

Athlone is open a good few weeks now!

I've never seen anyone charging at the Ionity charger either.

I think once ESB starts charging this will become much more popular place.

hopefully, I can't imagine they are impressed spending so much money on a hub and it not used very much.

Not sure they'll be too bothered, the primary goal of Ionity is to allow the members sell more of their cars right? I'm sure they'll take the few shekels, but when VW are looking to be selling half a million EVs in the next year or two (€10bn a year?) I'd say the money they make from Ionity will be a rounding error.

    +1

Ionity is the equivalent of a loss leader in the grocery market.

They're playing the long game, they know it couldn't be profitable with the current fleet but you can't sell EVs if there's not enough places to charge them.

I've charged there 7 times. Only once, at 1:30am on a Monday, was I the only EV activity charging.

I pass it twice a day, every day, and have yet to see any cars charging!

Great car and you are getting the full benefit of Ionity chargers vs the ESB triple units.

my range has dropped something else the last week or so, kinda surprised me by how much.

Is the Circle K charger still just Chademo out there and the CCS out of action?

Maingau You will get an email a few weeks after charging, with full details of the charge and the cost
So I charged on the 21st September & to date no email, no charge to my account & nothing on the app.
I'm guessing at this stage I wont be charged.....

I read since that your first charge is free, must be correct as I haven't been billed yet either

My first charge wasn't free & I don't think any others here had free first charges.
Maybe it's a more recent promotion or they're just having admin issues.

I charged using the contactless card in Gorey last week 4kWh and the transaction appeared in the app in less than 2 minutes (had to refresh), 1.6Euro, haven't checked my account, I guess it will be charged end of the month? I am going to Galway tomorrow and will need 2 short charges each way in Ionity, will report back

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,308 Mod ✭✭✭✭charlieIRL

OK i just checked my Manigau app and it says i have no transactions yet! I definitely charged my car on the 6th October at the Ionity in Athlone!! And i used my Manigau card to start the charge!

I also checked my Ionity app and the same, no charging history! My car is a ghost!!

They don't have a live feed, a ZapMap user reported 2 and 4 being faulty a week ago.
