I can't see any advantages to keeping them open, especially on a busy street?

    Weirdos.

Also are they not scared of looking out of a dark window at night? I'm always afraid I'll see a pair of eyes looking back at me, possibly red ones like from some horror film that traumatized me as a kid lol

They lie in wait in their darkened front room, hoping to entice any would be burglars inside, who then they can kill in the most bloodthirsty way possible.

I lived in Holland many years ago and one of the most striking things I noticed when I first moved there was how nobody seemed to draw their curtains at night and you could see right into peoples homes as you walked down the street at night. Is it creeping in here now?

So people walking past can see my big hairy balls. No one else will look at them! :)

It's a way of saying 'look at my giant flat screen tv, it's much bigger than yours'

It’s to give people who can’t mind their own business something to talk about.

Because they are inviting you in op they're swingers.....

It's like going to the zoo.... Are we looking at the animals or are they looking at us....

I do find it interesting though as I find if you do leave them open many passers have a peak....

Why not try it yourself op but for the laugh go around naked...

    Common in Austria, Germany too

Nothing like getting your grim arse up off the zombie tv slouch couch for a p!ss and catching another narcissistic glimpse of your staggery reflection in the window before you get another two hits in the bathroom winda. Because you are worth it.

No point in having a 60" tv if the neighbors can't watch as well.

I love watching people in their homes just going about their business. Would never leave my own curtains open as I do not like the idea of someone seeing me hanging out in my house. I could be scratching my arse or have no clothes on or whatever, not something I feel others should see me doing.

I'd have more of a problem with people gawking in when they should mind their own business TBH.

It's still that way. Not just one or two houses on a street but almost all.

If I pass a house with open curtains you can bet I'm looking in for a nose.

Curtains used to be kept closed to keep in heat and keep out draughts. Now, with good insulation they're not needed in many houses and are more "for show" then anything else.

I leave the curtains open at the rear in the kitchen as I have a pub outdoor light set up outside and love seeing the light come in...

No one close to my current house so no need to close them, but in previous houses in urban area, I would always keep them closed, hate the though of people seeing in.

And if they don’t have noses I’m straight on to immigration.

After you've critiqued the decor I hope?

They have a TV license, so no need to close them

These sort of people leave the curtains open when dark because they get a kick out of strangers passing by looking in, it's a kind of weird fetish they have thinking of the mysteriousness of strangers watching them when they themselves cannot see out into the darkness. Odd-ball people for sure and with not an ounce of personal security common sense in mind. Or maybe they just dont care and are just 100% stupid, there's plenty out there.

Individual people have different thoughts and understanding in regard to others opinions, but the problem is this... there are some people out there that will do everything in their power to cut you off when they do not like your opinion even when it is truth.

Think it's possibly a mental thing influenced partly by the emergence of social media.
We are accustomed to sharing everything about ourselves so, feeling the need to prevent others watching us doing mundane stuff at home no longer feels important to some. Same with having phone calls on buses and in other places where everyone can hear everything. Traditionally, people were more inclined to say, 'I can't talk now, I'll call you back'

Previously, people had lace curtains to prevent people looking in during the day, can't imagine they are being fitted in any house now unless one deliberately going for a nostalgic feel.

Live in the middle of no where. Lay in bed last night and watched the moon.
