Bramley lodge for lunch - special was roast sirloin of beef, veg & potato gratin - absolutely top notch and a massive portion.

    Always good grub there.

    Went to Pier 26.
Between us we had Mushroom Soup, Monkfish and Risotto with Mussels. Everyone happy.
I will say the menu on the website is better than the menu on the day and it’s a bit pricey. Nice place and good food though.

Very sorry to see El Vino East Village Douglas is gone, sign up saying something like closed for the seeable future. Apparently they opened in Killarney too, not sure if that had any bearing on the Douglas closure.

El vino in Douglas is open again. Not sure whether same owners etc

Stayed in the city last weekend with the family which was so much fun. We ate dinner at Cornstore which I cannot fault for service, ambiance and atmosphere, all of which were fantastic. The menu looks great and pretty good value however while the food was good and thought it would be a lot better but still enjoyed it. We skipped desert and headed to Casanova Gelato instead which has some of the best ice cream I have ever eaten and as good as you'll get anywhere. They told me its made onsite but two italians and they now have a second store in the English Market. On Sunday morning we checked out SpitJack for brunch which was packed and again great service in lovely surroudnings and really enjoyed the food and coffee. Cork City has a lot going on and you are all lucky to have all this on your doorstep.

Would agree with the cornstore. Food is good but possibly could be better, although I always enjoy my meal there. Good atmosphere and vibe.

Where would you recommend if I could splurge on one dinner only in Cork?

Ate in Bocelli on Maylor Street last night - very tasty, had the king prawn risotto followed by tiramisu, staff very friendly and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Could have been a bit warmer in there but I think it may have been where we were sitting, but other than that was quite impressed.

You're a bit out of the loop there Cork Lass. Fleming's is closed a good long time. Michael Fleming passed away last year...

Holy smoke's food is good, but they serve some of it on these cold metal dishes... it gets cold really quickly.

Gimmicky serveware winds me up when it is not functional.

I never knew that. Used to go there every Christmas for (very long boozy) lunch up until about 3 years ago. Was actually going to try to book it for this Christmas- glad you put me in the know. Michael was a lovely man and I’m sorry to hear that he’s passed away.

Anybody tried that new "Ignite Charcoal Grill" place on Washington street? Seems to be an upscale Turkish Kebab spot with lots of meat skewer based dishes. Saw them grilling meat on big swords. Also some veggie options like falafel pittas and baba ganoush.

Not great. Was bland and overpriced when I was there. Aggree on the cutlery too. CoqBull is far better

Any recommendations for a nice, good value lunch in the city around a tenner or so? Many thanks!

Luigi Malone's do a starter, main and soft drink for €11 (Monday to Friday, 12-3 I think)
Far from fine dining but probably the best value lunch in the city.

I had lunch in Amicus last week. Pulled pork sandwich for 8.99 and loads of it. They do soup and half sandwich as well.

    Yum, thanks all!

On a side note, has anyone eaten in the new Maldron on the South Mall? Any good?

I ate there about a month ago using the First Tables website.

It was alright but I won't be going back.

First Tables is great though. You have to book on their website and eat early but you get your meal with 50% off. Greene's is on it and a good few others.
