Anyone else think that the amount of adverts you have to sit through to watch anything is a bit over the top....

You can't even open another tab now and do other things while the ads are playing. It knows you've opened another tab and the ads will stop playing. You have to sit there and watch them.

It was 5 and 1/2 minutes behind live tonight when I was watching the CL match.

Plus I had to sit through 3 minutes of advertising

The Rte player on the sky box is very slow to update. Irish revolution is only up today two days later.

Open a new window instead of a tab.

Been using this on samsung phone with chromecast and have had 0 issues, very few ads either..

And I love it, really pulled it out of the bag in terms of content anyway!

However, doesn't work on LG tv, it did update and work for a bit, kinda.. but its now updated back to a non-working version of the previous app.

Why does this useless **** rte player not work on my chromebook, ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 MarsCur

RTE Player is not supported on Chromebook.
" We currently do not support Chromebook " to quote them exactly.
We had to wait many unnecessary years for Chromecast support, so this lack of RTE Player/Chromebook support is no great surprise to anyone.
A major cull of inept senior management is so overdue in RTE.

RTE player is the biggest pile of **** in a broadcasting organisation that specialises in ****. No surprise the fu$kin ads work fine but the live stream is ****. Pitiful third rate rte jobsworths. Maybe if they employed people on their ability and skills instead of their ****ing relationship to the privks in position to employ. **** **** ****

You’re right. But if it’s any help, it works very well on the new Apple TV app. So far.

Gave up it was sucking the life out of me. TV 3 player is a polar opposite maybe they should get the licence fee and run an internship for the work experience kids who do RTE's

A big wig posted that basically they created a private cloud for everything call Nebula. The problem with private internal cloud is it does not scale. They were actually patting themselves on the back over it. RTE player should be hosted by one of the big providers and grow and shrink on demand. The reason why they went private rather than public they probably wanted to keep people in jobs.

When I work with people like that normally its the case they are people have poor skills and make very very bad IT decisions and this is an example of this. The reason why TV3 player works is that it’s private sector and it is probably hosted externally on s platform for this as the goal in cost and not to keep people not moving with the times in a job.

Really, really poor quality from RTÉ Player at newstime the past few days in particular. Muffled reports on the news overlapping each other and jumping back. It's not the broadband (Virgin) or the fact that I'm chromecasting to the tv as the problem doesn't occur when I'm chromecasting from YouTube, etc.

I'm really not looking forward to going back to having to wade through 100 rubbish Virgin channels just so I can watch RTÉ News and maybe a couple of other things. As somebody with a valid RTÉ tv licence, it really shouldn't be necessary that we must pay for all those rubbish private channels to get a quality connection to RTÉ's programmes.

    The news is available here...
    https://www.rte.ie/news/player/nine-news/

Unfortunately no use for programs other than news

New RTÉ player appeared on my Walker TV this evening, has the old logo but new player access, a couple of ads and programme played fine.

Hi, when you say it appeared, where is it exactly?
I’ve a Walker Smart TV and I’d love to have the RTÉ Player on it :)

    Confirmed.

I've only been using the old one for Mr Mercedes. Just noticed they have two episodes of Line of Duty 5 up, so that's the bank holiday weekend sorted.

On the home page, it is also in the app section (but not in the preloaded app section), see photo. The TV was on earlier in the evening, no sign of it, switched on the TV later in the evening and it had been added to the home screen.

Boyfriends hates RTÉ player when having to watch Eastenders he watches part 1 after like 2 and half minutes of ads watches the first part then goes to show more ads another 2 and half minutes and then freezes and we have brilliant internet.

Ads plays no problem and yet the actual content freezes stops and so on

    RTÉ rubbish

The irony is strong with this one.

I think you misunderstood that post. They’re complaining about the poor quality of the RTE player, not the programmes, and about having to subscribe to Virgin media to watch RTE through their connection, just because the player doesn’t work.
